| NME TOUR REVIEW 9/10 Tonight's show scales new heights of theatrical aceness, generation K has glimpsed heaven...and that is just slightly wonderful |
| NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS The Sun: Tassle do nicely, Kylie! Fans got a thighful of Kylie Minogue as she kicked off her first world tour in nine years wearing a fringed micro mini skirt. She raised temperatures in chilly Glasgow with six rapid costume changes. And it still looked like Kylie, 32 hadn't anything to wear. The Independant: As well as a formidable singing voice, she has a personality all of her own and it shines best during high energy dance beats, silver tassles and six inch stiletto heels. It's fantastic fun..has the crowd screaming...riotous fun night out. Glasgow Herald: The event of the year. I'd defy anyone to not experience the mardi gras of Kylie performing live and not have a smile across their face for the entire evening. Hits old and new were greeted with equal rapture and each costume and set change echoed even more delight. Daily Echo: Kylie proved beyond any doubt that she is the princess of pop with a dazzling sell out show last night. From the moment the purple regal drapes embossed with her initials fell open mouthed at her stilletto feet. Fully grown men behaved like love struck teeny boppers as they packed out the Bournemouth International Centre last night. Everone could be heard chanting KYLIE! KYLIE!..This wasn't just a concert it was an amazing theatrical experience. Daily Telegraph (Australia): The disco diva has broken all records to become the biggest selling Australian live act and the most popular female artist ever. In Australia she outsells Madonna and Janet Jackson. More than 200,000 Australian fans will see Minogue perform her two hour show, which cost $8 million to stage. It bundles enduring images of popular culture from every decade since the 1920's into one energetic display. Daily Mail (UK): Of the new show's highlights, a new song "Can't Get You out Of My Head" was the most notable. A bass heavy, mid tempo funk workout, it is due to be the next single in August and suggests that her new album due out in September will be musically stronger than Light Years. Among other successes was an encore of Spinning Around. With four nights at London Apollo Theatre and a sold out Australian tour (starting tomorrow), rapidly approaching, those (including myself) who had written her off as a piece of pop fluff should prepare to have their opinions turned upside down. BRIGHTON CENTRE By Adrian Thrills march 16th 2001 www.worldpop.com Review: The anticipation is mounting as the baying crowdeagerly awaits the opening concert of Kylie's latest tour. Will she live up to the hype? As the lady herself is lowered onto the stage astride a glittery anchor, it soon becomes apparent she's looking and sounding better than ever. Kylie lands in the middle of a nautical scene complete with handsome sailors and girls in skimpy bikini's, as she launches into Loveboat. It's her party but everyone's invited and she genuinely thrilled by the reaction. Next we hit the disco era and its mirror balls, into old classics like hand On Your Heart (HOORAY!, Never Too Late and Celebration. It's a non-stop energetic show taking in everyones favourites yet she is barely out of breath. The pop diva treats us to a Frank Sinatra style versiion of Better The Devil You Know going one better than Steps and with a New York backdrop and white top hat and tails. Kylie does a slinky version of I Should Be So Lucky and hits the high notes in Confide In Me with ease. Then were back into disco heaven with Your Disco Needs You and Kids. - minus Robbie but no-one cares. The final section starts with the space age Light Years and Kylie and chums take us to a far away galaxy. Everyones up, dancing and having the time of their lives and its all ridiculously over the top. Next stop is the Fever 2002 World Tour.... |
