13-year old Kyley Statham was just starting high school when she received news that she had been chosen as Nikki in SOCIETY'S CHILD. "This is so cool! It's awesome to be working on this project!"
Kyley's first acting role was that of Young Jondy in the recent James Cameron pilot Dark Angel. She has also appeared as an extra in several produtions, including the features Along Came A Spider and Josie and the Pussycats, and the series Night Vision.
To learn to play a character with Rett Syndrome in SOCIETY'S CHILD, Kyley watched many tapes of girls suffering from the disorder and carefully studied all their movements. It's a part that has touched her deeply and she hopes other people will learn more about the disease after watching the movie. She has decided to donate 10 per cent of her SOCIETY'S CHILD earnings to a Rett Syndrome foundation.
Kyley's mother Kim says sometimes it's difficult watching her daughter on camera, because it all just seems too real. "I get all chokced up when I look at teh monitor, and sometimes I just have to look away." Acting is something Kyley would like to pursue, but for now she is concentrating on her school work.
Kyley lives in the Vancouver suburb of Ladner, British Columbia with her parents and sister Jordanna.
