Kyle Valenti, son of Sheriff Jim Valenti, entered the "Roswell" scene as a fairly typical one-dimensional character. Summer boyfriend to Liz Parker, he was used in the "Pilot" as a means of throwing his own father off Max Evans's tail. Already distrustful of Max around his girlfriend, Kyle's suspicions grew after Liz dumped him and his father warned him to "stay away from Max Evans." A typical jock, toting cowboy hat and matching belt buckle, Kyle was one of the Pod Squad's first real enemies, following Max, Michael, and Isabel all the way to Texas. This flat, stalker-esque character, however, would transform when Kyle was shot and then brought back to life by his former enemy, Max. Knowing the truth about the aliens, Kyle was forced to change his perspective on life and his daily "activities." He began to find faith and leadership by studying Buddhism whilst trying to maintain his normal jock appearance. Tess Harding's introduction to the show hinted towards signs of a love interest for Kyle at last. His last serious girlfriend was Liz, and thereafter he made out with Vicky, giving fans the final nail in the coffin about the assumption that Kyle is "experienced" even though he only made it to second base with Liz. With Tess's entrance into the Valentis' home began a flirtatious and caring relationship between Kyle and Tess. His dry humor truly shined during his first few interactions with Tess. Like Tess, Kyle, too, would be one of the outsiders of the close-knit group that housed Max, Michael, Isabel, Liz, Maria, and Alex. First sparing partners, then friends, the two shared a strange mixture of both friendship and sexual attraction viewed via boxer scenes, lamptrimming references, and Kyle's consideration of Tess as "the family he was trying to protect" in "We Are Family." However, "Heart of Mine" changed the relationship between Kyle and Tess. During an altercation with a former teammate, Kyle reveals that his love for Tess is only "brotherly." Kyle would later be hurt by Tess's betrayal of his love and hospitality. With Kyle's only link to the aliens, Tess, now cut, Kyle has begun to experience a diminished role in Season 3. With his father jobless, Kyle has become the breadwinner of his family, working as a mechanic. Kyle's friendship with another alien, Isabel, has developed as well, and show signs of more than friendship on Kyle's part. Credit to Tammy ([email protected]). Thank you! Edited by Vlada. |
