Summary: Tess and Kyle have a fight, which leads to something more.
Note: In my story Tess didnt kill Alex. We dont know who did and its not really an issue. Shes not pregnant either. In other words, Cry Your Name never happened. Get over it.
"I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you dont wanna speak tonight
Thats all right, all right with me
Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside of your door and listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be"
-Breathing, Lifehouse
"Kyle! Help!" Tess shouted. Kyle darted from the kitchen to the bathroom where Tess stood on the toilet.
"What? Whats wrong?" Tess simply pointed to the floor as if it were obvious. And it was. There were four little cock roaches there on the floor, scrambling around in circles more frightened than Tess.
"Roaches? You called me in here for roaches?" He said almost in disbelief.
"Kyle! Kill them! Get them away from me!"
"The queen of Antar is afraid of four little roaches? This is ridiculous."
"God, Kyle, please!" Kyle proceeded to stomping the tiny creatures, fearless and effortlessly. Wiping them up afterward with toilet paper. He threw them in the waste paper basket, staring at Tess and grinning.
"What?" She said.
"I just dont believe you afraid of cock roaches."
"Well" Tess said, suddenly very interested in the bathrooms floor pattern.
He chuckled and held out a hand to her. "Come down." She took it gracefully and stepped down. "Why didnt you just shoot them with your death ray eyes?" Kyle joked: unaware he was still holding her hand. She briskly ripped her hand from his and turned out of the bathroom.
"I told you I was joking about that."
"Where are you going?" He asked between a snicker.
"Im going to finish getting ready for school." Kyle hadnt even noticed she was still wearing her pajamas. He was too busy laughing.
"Dont let those dangerous roaches get you on the way." He said with a smile that wasnt reciprocated at all. He received no answer and figured she hadnt heard.
They walked to school in silence, which was unusual because Tess always had something to say, and however meager of crucial, Kyle always listened contentedly and then added his two cents. That was just the way it was. So it was hard for him to understand her quiet that morning. "Are you angry with me?" Kyle said lightly.
"Huh! Why would I be angry with you, Kyle?"
"I-"
"Maybe because you mocked me and made fun of me, when you knew I never had to deal with that before. Lets tease the poor little alien girl, about her sheltered, disconnected life!" Tess shouted, disregarding the people around them who could hear her every word.
"Tess," he began quietly. "I didnt mean to-" They reached the school at that moment and Tess made it clear she wasnt interested in what Kyle had to say. She walked away from him and toward her locker. Kyle ran to catch up to her. "Listen to me! Im trying to apologize here." Tess turned with folded arms and looked him in the eye, waiting to hear what he had to say. If he said it right, there was a chance shed forgive him.
With perfect timing, Kyles team mates approached. "Hey Kyle!"
"Whats up man?"
"Hey, check out the hottie. Whats up baby?" An ignorant jock said to Tess.
"Id like to take a walk down that block."
"I hear dat."
"Excuse me?" She clamored, waiting for Kyle to defend her honor.
The jocks pulled at Kyle and laughed. "Come on Valenti." And then he walked away with his buddies, as if nothing had happened. At least he mad it look that way.
During sixth period in the cafeteria, Tess recapped the events of her day to Isabelle. "And then he just walks away. He didnt even care! Can you believe he did that?" Tess said to Isabelle.
"That doesnt sound like Kyle. Maybe he didnt think it was such a big deal." Isabelle said trying her best to defend Kyle.
"Yeah well, it was a big deal to me."
"It isnt as if you cant take care of yourself. Why are you making such an issue out of this?"
"Im not." Tess sighed. "I guess I just feel like I thought we were closer I thought him and I connected to each other It just seemed like we had something special between us." Tess said, staring dreamily at the cafeteria ceiling as if Kyles face were painted there and inadvertently exposing her feelings to Isabelle.
"Tess! Oh my God! Are you in love with Kyle?"
"No! I dont know Maybe" Tess looked down, it was surprising how interesting floor tiles were today.
"Tess!"
"What?" Isabelle eyed Tess for a while. "How could I not fall for him? Hes just been there for me, you know? With Whittacker and everything she did to me That whole thing with Max- hes my knight in shining armor, Issie. Hes always there. If theres no alien crisis, or even if there is. But he told me I was like a sister to him. A sister! What am I supposed to do with that?"
"Didnt you agree with him?"
"Not exactly. I told him I understood." Isabelle raised an eyebrow. "What was I supposed to say? Im sorry you feel that way because Im falling for you. No! So I went to Max! But that was when I realized it really was Kyle."
"How do you go home to him everyday, and not say anything?"
"Its torture. And lately hes been so cruel to me. Its not like him at all. I just I wish things were different." Tess lowered her voice to a whisper. "Why do I have to worry about the welfare of my alien species, while every other teenage girl deals with her hormones?"
Issie chuckled. "Now you know how we all feel. Max, Michael and I, we just want to be normal, and live normal lives. But then you came and introduced us to destiny. We didnt know how to deal with that."
"I know. Nacedo taught me that this life isnt important, that Im here for one reason and one reason only. And that is to find the rest of the royal four and return home to save our planet. I never imagined this. These emotions Theyre so much stronger than the feelings I conjured up for Max. I never really loved him. I was in love with the idea of him. Do you know what I mean?" Isabelle shook her head in agreement. "But this is real."
"Say it." Isabelle said.
"Say what?"
"You havent said you love him. Say it."
"Why?"
"When Alex was alive, it took me a long time to admit that I loved him, and now hes gone. Once you admit those feelings to yourself- once you say it, youll know everything you need to know."
"I love Kyle. No. Im in love with Kyle. Im in love with Kyle Valenti." Then Tess knew. She knew where her home was. She knew what her purpose was. She knew what her destiny was. She didnt have anymore doubts. It was all Kyle. "I have to tell him."
*~*~*~*~*
The next day, Saturday, was coincidentally the anniversary of the day Tess had moved in with the Valentis. She was ecstatic. This was her chance to profess her love to Kyle. A romantic dinner, followed by a romantic movie, hopefully followed by a romantic makeout session. At least thats what Isabelle had said. "Ill tell him at dinner," Tess told herself.
For two hours Tess scrambled around the Valenti home. Cooking, getting dressed and preparing the perfect romantic setting, of course. She tried to do everything the conventional way, excluding her alien powers. But when she had ten minutes until Kyle was expected home and wasnt even dressed yet; her powers became her salvation.
With a wave of her hand, twenty scented candles around the Valenti living room were lit, her hair was spun into the perfect French roll, and the Chicken Parmesan was fully cooked. Screw conventionality.
Implemented in a tight black halter dress, Tess waited for her Buddha boy to arrive. Kyle showed up five minutes later and was stunned to find Tess waiting by a table full of food and a living room overwhelmed with candles. How had she known about his dream? This was surreal. But then Kyle realized this couldnt be for him. This wouldnt be for him. She must be waiting for Max. Its always Max Evans, he told himself. He treats the women who love him like crap and every time they run back to him.
"Hey Tess, Im sorry about yesterday." Kyle uttered.
"You know what Kyle? Dont worry about that."
"So were cool then?"
"Yeah. Were cool." Tess smiled at him.
"Great cause Ive got some friends that wanna come over." Kyle opened the door and called out, "hey guys, come on in." The entire football team was about to stampede into the Valenti living room, when Tess raised her hand and used her powers to push to door shut, holding it closed against the dumb jocks behind it; who continued to push at it, despite the fact that it wasnt budging.
"What the hell are you doing?" Kyle demanded.
"What are you doing? Dont you see this? Dont you know what today is?" Tess said holding her arm out at a steady angle.
"Oh I get it, youve got a date with Evans. Hes coming over here, so you two can procreate your alien species?"
"Kyle, I think you should-"
"No! You wanna know what I think?" Kyle shouted. "I think Im just about tired of this! I cant even invite my own friends over anymore, without there being some damn alien thing going on! Its like I was walking along one day when the fucking pod squad just crash-landed into my life. Literally! And suddenly Im a part of this bizarre alien club, which I never wanted to join in the first place! And as it turns out, theres a lifetime membership! Or shall we say life fee? How many times have I almost died now? Once? Twice?"
Tess remained composed. She knew he was just upset. She could calm him down. "Kyle, I would never want anything bad to happen to you." Tess said trying her best to keep the door shut, but the jocks were strong, and her powers were wearing down.
"Yeah well, me neither! You know, before you guys came along I had a normal life. It may not have been perfect, but it was good. My dad was sheriff, I had Liz- But thats all gone to hell now hasnt it? Sometimes I just wish you would pack up, get on your spaceship and go back to wherever it is you came from!"
That was it. That was all Tess needed to hear to shatter her heart, that somebody else didnt want her. She had gotten enough of that from Max and Nacedo. Her sight grew blurry and she could feel the tears coming, but she just stood there with her mouth open. She couldnt believe he was saying this to her. She lost her concentration and suddenly the jocks broke through her hold, ramming the door open.
"Hey Kyle, theres something seriously wrong with your door, man." One jock said to Kyle, grinning like an idiot.
"We had the whole team pushin at it. And it hardly budged." Another said.
"Yeah. It mustve gotten stuck again. It does that sometimes." Kyle said looking at Tess. "Come on guys, lets go to the Crashdown." And that was it. He left her standing there teary-eyed. The strange thing was, he didnt even know why he had said any of it. He didnt mean it. He was mad, yes, but not at her. He didnt know why he was so angry. Or did he?
Tess spent the remainder of the evening in her bedroom, crying her eyes out. So many times, she contemplated packing a suitcase and bolting out of there. But she just couldnt do it. Something told her to stay. She called it fear. Fear of being alone; again.
*~*~*~*~*
That night, Kyle sat outside the bedroom that used to belong to him. His back pressed against the door that was now Tesss. "What happened?" He thought. One might have guessed that he was talking about the loss of his room. But theyd be wrong. He was thinking about the heart that he had broken that night. Tesss heart. "Im sorry Tess. I didnt mean to hurt you. I just wish I could tell you how I feel That I- I-." Kyle sighed and leaned his head against the door. What did it matter? She couldnt hear him anyway.
"You what?" Tess said, opening the door.
"I thought you were sleeping."
"I was." She was lying.
"Im sorry I woke you." Kyle jumped up and turned to walk away. Tess reached out and grabbed his hand. He looked down into her eyes and suddenly realized how red they were. "Have you been crying?"
"No." She turned her back to him. He couldnt know she had been awake, crying because she loved him and couldnt tell him. Because she thought he hated her.
"Im sorry." He said sincerely. "Please look at me." And she did because she would have done anything for him. "Your eyes are all red. Were you crying because of me? What I said? I didnt mean it. I was just angry. But not at you. I took it out on you because- I dont know But I dont want you to cry. I would never want to be the reason you hurt. I love you too much to hurt you."
"What?" She asked hoping against all odds that she hadnt heard him wrong.
"I said I wouldnt want to hurt you because I love you. But I know that you love Max. Hes your destiny. Thats why Ive been acting so weird. I was angry that he hurts you this way and you still love him and not me. I was trying to make you hate me, because then it would be easier for me not to love you. I didnt mean any of things I said. I never ever wanted you to cry Tess. I never want you to cry." Kyle said wiping away a stray tear from her face. And they gazed into each others eyes the way lovers do right before they kiss. God, he wanted to kiss her. But instead he turned to walk away because he couldnt stand to have his broken heart walked on again.
"Kyle. I dont love Max." Kyle stopped in his tracks. "I never did. I thought I was supposed to, because I was meant to. But the only thing I was ever supposed to do was love you Kyle. Its you. Its always gonna be you." Random tears escaped from her eyes and ran away to her chin. Then hid there, like scared little children.
Kyles arms wrapped themselves around Tess. They buried themselves into on another and shared each others warmth. How was it possible for two people to be in love and never tell one another? They didnt know and they wouldnt have to find out. He pulled himself from their embrace to make sure that she knew, "I love you."
"I love you." Tess pulled Kyle inside her bedroom and looked up at him. He was so beautiful.
"I should go back to the couch."
"Dont leave me Kyle." How could he protest the women he loved? He walked into her bedroom and passion took over. He kissed her gently, sweetly. Then it hit them like candy-coated lightening. The same way their love had.
*~*~*~*~*
Flash:
Tess emerges from the pod chamber. She immediately goes up to the other pods to discover that theyre empty. She feels so scared and alone. Nacedo approaches her and she becomes even more alarmed. She knows her life wont ever be the same.
Kyle is a little boy; hes sitting in his room crying because his mother has just abandoned him and his dad. Hes never felt more detached from the world and silently begs god for someone to fill the void in his heart.
Tess overhears a conversation between Kyle and Malamoot. Malamoot makes an offensive comment about Tess. Kyle grabs him and tells him to never talk about his sister that way. Tess is heartbroken that Kyle thinks of her as nothing more than a sister.
End Flash.
*~*~*~*~*
Kyle tore himself from her, suddenly filled with guilt. "Im so sorry."
"Shh. That doesnt matter now" She kissed him again, holding back the flashes this time. He ran his fingers through her hair. He loved her hair. Curly blonde locks that bounced when she walked and twirled when she touched him. She pulled away for just a moment. She was teasing him. He loved this. "Come here Buddha boy." Tess sat on the bed and motioned for him in a sexy, sultry way. "I want you to feel how much I love you." She said.
Kyle slept in sweatpants. That was it, and that was helpful. Tess ran a finger down the center of his chest until she reached his pants. She got on her knees and slowly pulled them down. He was already hard. "Sit down." He obeyed without hesitation. Tess got on her knees in front of him, taking little Kyle in her hands, touching him ever so slightly, manipulating his senses. She licked her lips and kissed it, played with it and made it her prisoner.
"God"
"Dont you mean Buddha?"
"Tess" Kyle lamented, disregarding her comment.
"Thats more like it." She smiled. She loved to give him pleasure. It was written all over his face, he was ready. With one more kiss she pulled her lips from him and let him come on the floor.
"Tess!"
She giggled, "do I make Kyle happy?"
"You do." Kyle said smiling.
"Let me make you happier."
"No, no, no. Its my turn to make you scream"
"Ooh."
"Its just not fair that Im completely exposed here and youre all covered up." She raised her arms for him and from her body her pulled off his old football jersey. He ran his hands down her slender frame. She wasnt a queen; she was a goddess. His goddess. "Did I say you could wear my jersey?" Kyle asked, taking off her panties.
"No Are you going to punish me?"
"I am."
"Oo, Im so scared. Kyle laid Tess down on the bed and gently spread her legs. Using two fingers, he entered her passage and maneuvered motions within her that blew her mind. Twirling circles and stroking her internally, Kyle brought Tess to her peak.
"Kyle! Right there Oh Dont stop Kyle!" Tess managed between heavy breaths. "Yes! Yes! Yes!" Kyle smiled; it was like an Herbal Essences commercial. Just watching her like that excited him all over again. Tess arched her back and with one last scream it was over. "Yes!"
"I want you so bad." Kyle said, sitting her up. He kissed her again. Her kisses were like candy melting in his mouth. Tess sat on his lap and wrapped her legs around his back, kissing his neck and fondling his Adams apple in a way that read, "ditto". Slowly Kyle entered Tess, searching for his place. They rocked together, indulging energy and satisfying urges. Somehow her body molded to his, like they were made to fit together. That was the truth; they were made to fit together.
It was a good thing Jim Valenti was away for the week, the noises those two were making would have woken him hours ago.
Tess and Kyle collapsed together on the bed, breathing heavily and pulsing all over. "I love you, Tess."
"I love you too, Kyle."
Kyles eyes opened at about five oclock in the morning. Realizing Tess was sleeping snugly in his arms, he was careful not to make a sound or movement. He smiled and kissed the back of her head. He was content just to listen to her breathing. There was no other place for him. This was where he wanted to be.
