while the raging wind is screaming 
ripping at your heart 
while the crashing waves and sleet 
batter your resolve 
while the hurricane unleashes 
howling fury on your soul 
find a rope, a rail, a plank 
and hold on tight 

as the darkness folds around you 
growing shadows from within 
as the fear sets in and binds you 
dragging down like lead 
as your hands reach out in vain 
finding only endless night 
close your eyes, pretend a lifeboat 
and hold on tight 

when you feel your being weaken 
strength and spirit wane 
when the lightening splits your hope into 
shattered pieces of a dream 
when you wake and find yourself 
falling, sliding, plunging down 
and surrounding you black nothingness 
with all your might 
then hold on tight 
to that
