Jacinda's Diary
28th November 2000
Jacinda went into labour quite a few days overdue so when the day finally came we were relieved. This is Jacinda's first time as a mum. The birth was not easy for her and it took a long time for her to push the kitten out. In fact, we were just about to take her to the vet when the kitten literally popped out. There was just one kitten this time around. She is a large, healthy kitten and weighs 104g. I can't begin to tell you how amazing the whole experience was for us. I think I felt every emotion possible in that few hours.
4th December 2000
The kitten has more than doubled her birth weight this week, which is great. Jacinda has taken some time to settle with her baby but she has it all figured out now and is showing us what an excellent mummy she is. The kitten now weighs 220g. Her umbilical cord has dropped off and we can see her colour creeping in, on her nose especially (she was born almost white).
12th December 2000
The kitten is developing a hint of colour on her body, which is slightly darker on her points, although her paw pads remain bright pink. We are all trying to guess what colour she will be but she will most likely be a Seal like her mum (also known as Natural or Brown). The kitten opened her eyes on day 11 and is starting to look cuter by the minute. She now weighs 328g.
19th December 2000
I had to keep a careful eye on the kitten this week as her weight seemed to slow very suddenly but thankfully it climbed rapidly at the end of the week. It must have been the extreme heat we experienced at the beginning of the week. She now weighs 422g. I have suspicions that this kitten may be Blue rather than Seal. We shall have to wait and see!

Mummy Jacinda and the baby are playing together now. They are quite a bit rougher & tumble than I expected at this young age but Jacinda is careful not to hurt her kitten. The kitten is developing so quickly now, she is cleaning herself, trying to interact with us and she has even begun lapping some kitten porridge from a saucer. She now weighs 494g and we will try to encourage her to eat more and more on her own.
2nd January 2001
The kitten is eating more and more on her own now. I have given her a combination of kitten food and whatever else takes her fancy this week. She is seeking my attention more and more now, which is lovely. She actually climbed right up my trouser leg today and fell asleep in my lap while I was tapping away at the computer. I have named her Kyjara Marielle Casmira. A pretty name for a very pretty cat. We will simply call her Casmira. I am almost certain now that she is a Blue and it is most likely that she will have the mink coat pattern as her eye colour has begun to turn aqua. She now weighs 568g.
9th January 2001
Casmira is using her litter tray all the time now. She eats 3 meals a day and is still suckling from Jacinda in between. She plays with toys such as Ping-Pong balls, feather wands & fuzzy mice. At this age she is very active and fun loving but she still has time for a cuddle. Casmira loves the scratching post and has learned to strop her claws on it from watching her mum. It took her a couple of weeks but she can now climb to the top shelf although getting down is a little more difficult! Casmira now weighs 660g.
