A Foul - A foul is any shot of the playing ball which violates a rule, or results in the violation of a rule, or picking up a ball that is not "ball in hand". The penalties for a foul are:
Indicating a Shot for a Player - It is permissible for a player's partner or coach
to point towards a spot to indicate where the player should shoot, but not to mark
the court in any way that could alter the path of the ball or
where the ball might settle, including touching the spot with the mallet,
the foot, or any part of the body or clothing. Also, the partner or coach MUST
leave the vicinity of the shot prior to the actual shot or risk a foul. It is up to
the referee to warn a player of this situation, and also to call such a foul.

No opponents or opponent's coach should attempt to physically interfere with a player
during the player's turn, nor speak to the player to attempt to distract the player,
nor interfere with any ball on the court, nor be on the court during the player's turn.
Should an opponent or opponent's coach interfere in any of these ways during the player's
turn, the referee sould replace any balls moved and replay the shot.

Other Interference - No player or coach is to touch, or tap with the mallet, an arch or post that is in contact or close proximity to a ball. To do so deliberately constitutes a foul.
If a ball lying near or in contact with a wicket or post is moved accidently
or as a result of a ball making contact with the wicket or post, the ball is
to be replaced without a foul resulting.

Picking Up a Moving Ball - In most cases, it is a foul to touch a moving
ball. However, it is not a foul for a player to pick up a moving ball if the ball has
rolled out of bounds. Also, it is not a foul to pick up the playing ball after a roquet
while still rolling if the roqueted ball is obviously not going out of bounds, and if
the playing ball is not going to hit the roqueted ball or any other ball.

Ball in Hand - It is a foul to pick up a ball that is not in
a ball in hand situation (see the rules concerning "ball in hand").
