9-Wicket Rules: Blocking

9-Wicket "Backyard Style" Grass Croquet -
Rules: Blocking

Blocking - A block is to put a ball (the blocker) that another ball (the blockee) is dead on in the path of the blockee, either between the blockee and a wicket, or between the blockee and another ball that the blockee is alive on.

A team's ball may block an opposing team's ball only once until the opponent makes the next point for that ball. For example, red may block yellow once, but then blue may not block yellow until yellow has scored the current point. Neither may red block yellow again until yellow has scored its point. However, red or blue, in this example, may still block black once.

If a player, for the same point as an opponent's ball, blocks an opponent's ball for a point once and then blocks the opponent again before the opponent has made its point, the player must replace the blocking ball and then reshoot the same ball without hitting another ball or making a point.

It is up to the shooter before the first shot of the turn to ask the referee to call a block, otherwise no block has occurred. It is up to the referee to determine whether or not a block is in effect.
