Schooled at Wakataayi Primary School and Nabisunsa Girls School, Mummy graduated from Kibuli Teacher Training College. She taught at Kawempe Muslim and Bat Valley Primary Schools.
Mummy was chairperson of the Uganda Muslim Women's Association, member of the Executive Committee of the Uganda National Council of Women and member of Olukiiko lwa Buganda. She also served on school boards at Mariam High School, Wakataayi SSS, Wandegeya Primary Sch and in addition she founded Jafali Kizito School at Zirobwe.
Hajat was an accomplished women activist who led the muslim women in Uganda at the critical post International Decade of Women period of women fight for emancipation. Hajat Mummy organized and also addressed various forums aimed at promoting the "muslim woman" in Uganda and beyond.
Mummy lived to the responsibilities of her acquired title Mummy. She thus became mother to all and she was known by the name Hajat Mummy.
On the evening of March 5th 2003, Mummy lost her 26 years struggle with diabetes when her heart failed and she succumbed to death at Mulago Hospital. She was laid to rest at Jjanda Zirobwe on Thursday 6th March 2003.

Alumni and current students of Makerere University who have benefitted from the BIG heart of Hajat Mummy have formed an organization HAJAT FATINAH S FOUNDATION to continue her legacy.
