Flurries:
1. Light snow falling for short durations.
2. Little if any accumulation

Snow Showers
1. Snow falling at various times of day or night.
2. Lasting for brief periods.
3. Some accumulation possible.

Snow Squalls
1. Brief, intense snow showers along with strong, gusty winds.
2. Significant accumulation possible.
3. Best known in the Great Lakes region.

Blowing Snow
1. Wind driven snow that reduces visibility.
2. Significant drifting.
3. Snow falling or loose snow accumulated on the group that's picked up by the wind.

Blizzard
1. Winds over 35 mph
2. Blowing snow
3. Visibillities near zero
Ice

Sleet
1. Rain drops that freeze into ice pellets before reaching the ground.
2. Sleet will usually bounce when hitting a surface.
3. Usually will not stick to objects.
4. Can accumulate like snow.
5. Causes a hazard to motorists.

Freezing Rain
1. Rain that falls onto a surface with a temperature below freezing.
2. Freezes to surfaces, such as cars, roads, trees, sidewalks, forming a glaze..
3. Little accumulation can cause traffic accidents.
4. Too much accumulation can cause power outages.

Ice Storms
1. Heavy accumulations of ice can bring down trees, electrical wires, telephone polls and lines. Communications and power can be disrupted for days while utility companies work to repair the damage.
