Onassis Parungao

KWOONBoy: Onassis, thank you for the interview.

KWOONBoy: What is the square root of 4761?

"O" = Let's see, if I do a horse stance for exactly 29 mins and the 3rd vein in my forehead from the left tells me the correct answer. I hold it in reserve and say to you, "The fat man has 69 extra chins". (That is our little inside joke)

KWOONBoy: What are your jobs on the show?

"O" = I'm an actor in the series and the fight coordinator. It is also my responsibility to keep the OLD SCHOOL KUNG FU in the series. That goes for Fighting, Humorisms, Clichs ect. ect. I have to keep Todd at check...you see, I'm up on him in Kung Fu movie watching. In this area I keep him in check. I'm always keeping the "Old School movie faith".

Where I am corrected by Todd is when he says "Dude, do know how many setups and camera changes that is goin' to be?" At this point in the production, I submit to his movie savvy and overall knowledge of the Movie business.

Todds a quick learner and I can't see him as someone who doesn't know how to get what he wants...succeed basically. He'd be good in Kung Fu if he practiced it as much as he worked on KWOON.

In short I keep the martial aspect in KWOON and Todd makes sure it's funny. Oh, and Chuck is our webmaster GOD. Whew!

KWOONBoy: How long have you been involved with KWOON?

"O" = Since it's inception.

KWOONBoy: And how did that Come about?

"O" = Have you read the KWOON inspiration? (KWOONBoy would like it stated for the record that of course Ive read it. Ive probably visited the site more than any other human. Im the official stalker) I pretty much lay it down there. Todd and I wanted to make movies with some cool fighting in it. Since we were both in the same school,(Lam Kwoon)the direction we have taken seems only natural.

KWOONBoy: How long have you been teaching Kung Fu?

"O" = I taught unofficially in CT. with my brothers for ten years. I have been teaching at Lam Kwoon since 95'.

KWOONBoy: Where were you born?

"O" = I was a navy brat and born in ROTA Spain on a military base.

KWOONBoy: Where and how did you meet your wife?

"O" = Ha ha, kinda clich. Do you really have to know this?

KWOONBoy: Its good to discourage any of my female stalker contemporaries from getting any ideas.

"O" = (She is)My high school sweetheart.

Onassis and Andre prepare for battle

KWOONBoy: How old is your little 'un

"O" = Her name is Edie and she's 18 months at this time. Smart as hell, way too advanced for her age. And no Im not goin' to pressure her into learning Kung Fu. I want her to be interested in it because she wants to, not because I brainwashed her.

KWOONBoy: What kind of preparation did you go through to prepare for the show?

"O" = You had to ask didn't you? Well let's see, 1st thing I do is look at the script. I mark in it every action sequence that requires choreography. Then I go to work. As I do the choreography I create a basic shell for us to work on. Later during rehearsals I can add to it or delete what I don't like. I also preshoot the fights w/ some brothers as a "Visual Storyboard". That lets me check myself and throw out what I don't like. Then I make sure that there is some sort of old school kung fu movie elements involved.

As for the physical, I work out everyday (but not Sunday) We have all taken some acting lessons as well. If you believe me or not (That) is another story. Ha ha J/K

Onasssis the action star

KWOONBoy: Any last words?

"O" = Yeah, I don't have delusions of Grandeur. If (success) happens, then so be it. As I said in the "Inspiration Page", many other Kung Fu nuts like me have had the dream of doing something like this. So I'll take the opportunity for now.

Also, I just really want people to like the fighting because we don't rely on wires and it takes a lot of hard work and rehearsing to do what we do. What's important to realize is that we do not "UnderCrank" (speed up) our cameras. We use digital. What you see is how it really is.

It's normal human perception. When youre actually doing a fight everything is fast, alive and very real. When the same fight is viewed from 30 ft away, it is very easy to pick apart mistakes and it looks slower. Just like boxing or any other sport. I say if the participants are making it look easy, then they are doing their job.

Train hard but train smart and earn what you know,
