Chapter List
Never call me Cat. You will address me as Ziara. Got it? Terrance nodded slightly. Ziara snarled once more and pushed him away, sending him stumbling backwards. She moved back to the spot she was standing before her attack. I looked back at Terrance and blinked. What was the point in that? No reason t go off on im in such a way I thought to myself.
Renard I turned my attention back to Ziara. Renard, from what Ive heard you seem to have the natural ability to lead. Therefore, I am making you a captain. You will be in charge of a group of animals to lead certain missions. She told me. I wasnt sure whether to feel grateful or scared. I had never been given such a position. I was only sixteen! I decided not to worry about it and try to just accept it.
What about us? Why are we here? asked Damien. Ziara looked back at Terrance and Damien.
You two will be under his command. She said with a slight grin. I blinked then looked back at them. They stared at her, then at me, then back. Terrance suddenly burst out laughing.
You- youre joking right? He couldnt lead a blind animal! he said, trying not to fall over from laughing. I frowned and glared at him. Ziara simply smiled and walked over to Terrance.
You want his command? Then take it from him. She said to him. He looked at her, then at me, then back at her.
Excuse me? he asked her. She stepped away from him and walked over to me. I watched her with curiosity. She moved her hands up to the back of her neck and undid a necklace with a small silver pendant on it. The pendant was in the shape of a silhouette howling wolf head. She reached around my neck and fastened the necklace then took a small step back.
This pendant is a symbol of strength and courage. She said to me, smiling. She then looked back at Terrance.
Its also to show his rank above you. If you want it, take it from him. She turned to me and whispered in my ear.
Dont let him touch it. I turned my head slightly to look at her before she walked off.
Alright, Renard my ears perked up and I looked at Terrance who was starting towards me. Hand it over. I looked at Ziara then back at Terrance. I took a few steps away from him. Terrance frowned and quickly stepped up to me and reached for the pendant. I ducked backwards away from him. He frowned then suddenly lunged at me. My eyes widened and I tried to move to the side but I was caught off guard. Before I knew it, Terrance was over me, one knee on my chest holding me down. He had a big size advantage over me and I couldnt push his knee off of my chest. Damien snarled and started towards Terrance. Ziara held an arm out in front of him and he stopped.
Let him handle it. She told him. He looked back towards the two of us and watched angrily. Terrance reached down and grabbed hold of the pendant. I growled and grabbed his wrist, pressing my claws against it. He growled and pulled his hand back then quickly brought it back to the side of my head. I felt dazed but shook the feeling off as Terrance made another attempt to grab the pendant. Vincent and Charlie had walked up after seeing the growing group around us.
Terrance! Stop it! Leave Renard alone! Yelled Charlie. Ziara glanced at him for a second then looked back at us. Damien sighed and explained to them what was going on. Terrance suddenly yelled out in pain as I sunk my canine fangs into his hand. He howled and stumbled back after pulling his hand free. I scooted back then stood up and watched Terrance. He growled at me and got up and rubbed his hand as it bled.
Keep the stupid thing. He said and stormed off. I stood there, surprised at how easily he caved in after a bite. I put two fingers two my fangs before Ziara clapped me on the back. I looked at her and she smiled at me.
Good job. Using your mind to overthrow your enemy. She said to me.
Actually, I just followed instinct to bite im She laughed at me.
Well, I suppose that works too! I smiled slightly at her. She gave me another clap on the back then turned back to the original group huddled around the tree stump. I learned from all of that that Terrance is still a very unpredictable wolf. He seemed to be really friendly once we got off the farm but when the opportunity showed up he turned on me in an instant. I turned and looked at Jewell who had been watching. I smiled at her.
Ello, Jewell. She smiled back at me.
Hello yourself, Renard. Nice work I suppose. I nodded then walked over to her. I rubbed my head where Damien had hit me.
So, I guess Im a captin now. I said to her randomly. She nodded and smiled.
You deserve it after how much youve done. I shook my head slightly.
It werent nothing, really. I said modestly. She turned to face me and smiled.
It was a lot to me. She patted my shoulder then turned and walked off, her soft tail swaying slowly behind her. I smiled, watching her walk off. I walked to a tree and sat myself down and thought for a few minutes. This was something new to me. It was all happening so fast. But I liked all of it. I couldnt wait to see what would happen next.
