Chapter List
Syka had stayed by her body for a few more minutes while the rest of us worked on a burial for the fallen leader. It was a small ceremony. She was buried and some of us said a few things for her.
Though I didnt ave the privilege t know er for that long I would still consider her a friend. I said when given the chance. I let out a sigh. She believed in me an gave me a chance. She will be missed. The others nodded in agreement as I took a step away from where she was buried. Syka stepped forward and looked down at her grave.
She was the best animal I knew. She was a great leader and an even better friend to me. I had known her for as long as I can remember. His eyes started to well up but he did his best to hide it. Fea patted him on the back lightly and he turned away from the group.
Ziara wasnt the only one to fall that day though. Seven others had fallen to the swords and longbows of the humans. The ceremonies lasted all day and finally came to a close as the sun slowly fell below the tree lines. The other officers and I gathered in a group around the last remaining bonfire. We had to figure out what we were going to do after our loss. Syka was now promoted to General of the resistance to take Ziaras place. He didnt seem very enthusiastic about replacing her though.
I realize that Ziaras death cannot be changed, but I cannot help but to mourn her. Ill get over it but not soon enough. Which is why I cannot accept the position of General. He said suddenly. There was a loud murmur throughout the entire group. Syka raised his hands to try and calm the group. After he had regained control he continued.
Ziaras last wish to me was to look after and train Renard he cast a glance towards me and I felt uncomfortable by the sudden attention given to me. He looked back at the others and continued Therefore, I will hold the job as General while I train Renard. Afterwards, I will resign and give the position to him. Ziara saw something in him and thats enough for me. That is all. He sat down and immediately animals started a loud response. I just sat there looking at Syka, trying to figure out what had just taken place. I was to be the leader of the ASAF. I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. Things were going way too fast for me. Could I handle this responsibility? I had to try. Whatever the future would bring I was ready for it.
That was three years ago
