Chapter Seven
Morning, unfortunately, came quickly. Too quickly, it seemed, for the three of us. The alarms rang loud, waking everybody who had gotten some sleep the previous night. I hadnt gotten any sleep at all. There was too much too worry about. I looked around the room as everybody sat up except for the few who tried to sleep more. I looked at Damien and Terrance, I could tell that they didnt sleep either; they were wide-awake, as was I.
My ears perked up as I heard the doors to the barracks unlock. I looked over and saw the door open and four guards walk in. Every single person in the barracks had their eyes on them, waiting to see what would be said. One of them stepped forward and looked over the occupants over the room.
Alright, now youve had your chance to think about it. So which one of you filthy beasts will step forward and admit your cruel deed? He paused and looked around again. Nobody moved from their spot, some of them just looked around. Damien, Terrance, and myself all kept our eyes on the four men by the door. The guard shook his head and looked back at another then nodded to him. The second guard stepped forward. My heart skipped a beat, for it was the same guard that has been giving us the most trouble the last few days.
He looked around then started to walk up and down the isles slowly, eyeing every single one of us that he passed. He went to the second row and the tension grew in me. Damien and me were in the third row, Terrance in the fourth. He continued on through the row then moved on to the third row. I looked down at my hand and saw I was shaking. I pressed my hands against the bed to try and stop the shaking as the guard drew nearer.
He walked towards Damien and me and stopped right in front of us. Both of us avoided contact with him. He watched us for a few seconds then moved on. I let out a silent sigh of relief, one burden lifted from my shoulders. I turned my head and watched him as he moved down the rest of the row then moved to the fourth. He stopped at the end of the row and called to guards over. The three walked up the row towards the front of the barracks.
Then, just as they were about to pass by, the three stopped in front of Terrances bed. Terrance stared at the ground, not wanting to look at them. Come on. keep walking. I thought to myself. My thoughts, however, would not become true. The guard nodded to Terrance and the other to quickly pulled him up by his arms. He tried to push them off.
It wasnt me! I swear! This is horse sh- his ranting was cut off by a quick blow to the side of his muzzle with the guards club.
Thats enough out of you! Take him away. The guard said. They dragged Terrance towards the door, him kicking and struggling the entire way.
The guard turned and followed them towards the door. I closed my eyes tight and growled. I quickly stood up on my bed.
Let him go! He did nothing and you know it!! I yelled out to them. All eyes turned to me in astonishment that I spoke up like I did. But this time I did not feel any regret for what I had said. The two guards that werent holding Terrance pulled out their clubs and started towards me.
Youre going to regret opening that large muzzle of yours this time, fox! said one of them. I jumped down off the bed and watched them. Nobody else said anything, they just watched. I had a feeling that they already knew what would happen to me. My mind was yelling at me for my actions You moron! Why did you ave to open your mouth?! Now youre going to get the beating of your life! Sit back down now! I growled to myself, I was tired of taking orders from others and having to regret ever speaking my mind. I was tired of having to obey like I was some domestic pet. I was just tired of everything and I sought to change that now.
