Chapter Four
Only an hour later did the alarms wake us up. I had fallen asleep in the corner again. I stood up and stretched and looked around the room. A few of the others in the barracks were already over to my bed and talking to the new fox. I shook my head and yawned. I was still very tired; I hadnt gotten much sleep over night. I walked over to my bed and looked at her. She looked at me and smiled.
Thank you for lending me your bed, Renard was it? She said. I nodded.
No problem. I said back to her. She held out her hand.
My names Jewell. She said to me. I took her hand in mine and lightly shook it.
Nice to meet you. She nodded and resumed her conversation with the people surrounding her bed. I sat down on Damiens bed and looked at him.
I wish you would have told me that she wasnt you. He said. I smiled.
Yes but it was so funny to see what you did. I laughed a little and he gave me a look that told me to stop. I patted him on the back and got up. I went and sat down on my bed next to Jewell once the people around it spread out. They went back over to their beds as the guards came in. They looked at everyone and nodded.
Looks like youre all wide awake and ready for a fun day of working. One of the guards said. I sighed as they left the barracks again. Some had already headed towards the bathroom in the back. I waited, as usual, for all of them to finish. Once they were done I realized that Jewell hadnt gone yet.
Its best to take care of everything now then wait until later. I said to her. She looked at me.
I was just waiting for the others to finish. She said to me. I shrugged and she stood up and walked into the bathroom. I lay down as I waited for her to be done. Damien sat back down on his bed and looked at me.
So are you going to lend her your bed again tonight? he asked. I looked at him.
Why? he shrugged.
I dont know. I was just curious. He said.
Well with luck shell have her own by tonight. I told him. I sighed and kept waiting. After about fifteen minutes she came out. Terrance looked at her then at Vincent.
Must be a fox thing to stay in there forever. Terrance said. Vincent chuckled and glanced at me. I shook my head and got up and walked to the bathroom. I was about to walk in when the guards came in to sort us into groups. I growled to myself, unable to straiten up properly. I walked back to my bed and sat down next to Jewell. I tried to straiten out my fur as much as possible before they started selecting us for groups.
