Octagonal Star
Fabric:
Maroon- (8) 3 1/2" squares; (1) 4 1/2" squares
Brown- (2) 3" squares; (2) 3 7/8" squares
Blue- (4) 3 1/2" squares; (4) 6 1/2" x 31/2" rectangles
Choose the (4) 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" blue rectangles and the (8) 3 1/2" maroon squares. Assemble (4) flying geese units from these. If you are unfamiliar with how to make flying geese units, please see our bom units instructions pages.

Center Unit:
Cut the remaining squares as follows-
    maroon 4 1/4" square= diagonally twice yielding (4) half square triangles
    brown 3" square= diagonally once yielding (2) half square triangles [A]
          3 7/8" square= diagaonally once yielding (20 half square triangles [B]

Sew one [A] triangle to the side of one maroon triangle.


Then sew a [B] triangle to the unit.



Complete the center following this picture.


Next, complete the block by rows with the final
blue squares following the pictures below.

Step One:  Sew (2) 3 1/2" blue squares to each end of (2) flying geese units.





Step Two: Sew the remaining (2) flying geese units to each side of the center unit.







Step Three: Finish by sewin the step one and two untis together by rows.
