| Begin by making your applique apples and arranging them onto the background as you desire. Fuse into place with hot iron. Secure the appliques in place with a blanket stitch. You can use your sewing machine with a coordinating thread or use embroidery floss and stitch by hand. Next, stitch the 3 1/2" squares to each end of the 3 1/4" x 8 1/2" brown check strips. Then stitch the remaining brown check strips to the sides of the background. Complete the top by stitching together each unit by rows. Finish your table mat with batting, backing and binding of your choice. |

| Is this your motto? Mine too! My kitchen is done in apples! I love the tones of the red of a country barn and the boughs of an evergreen. Below are the fabrics I chose for these apple quilted creations. I used Northcott Textiles. If I find a print and color I simply love and would re-use later, I cut a small swatch of it and put it in my photo album of Favorite Fabric Swatches. That way, if I'm browsing swatches from another textile manufacturer, I can compare and pick similar fabrics of my liking. |

Use a scrap of dark green for leaves. |
| You can mix the apples up however you choose. You can have alot or very few apples on it, some with two leaves, some with one, or even none! To get an apple slice, draw a slightly convex curve through the middle of one drawn apple pattern and cut accordingly. Use a scrap of black to make seeds. Need help? Use the photo as a reference. |
