What is CharacterEd.Net?

It is an Internet web site that contains a set of tools that you can use to integrate character education in your classroom. 

It consists of:

¨      Character education curriculum which is ready-to-use at the student level

¨      Interactive lessons which deal specifically with core character traits

¨      Activities & resources used to enhance classroom experiences

¨      Materials that are grouped by age level & character traits for easy access and use

¨      Tools for allowing students and schools to communicate their thoughts and experience with character & character education to other students and schools

To Access the Character Education Network:

Double click Netscape or Internet Explorer

In the address bar, type www.charactered.net and press Enter on your keyboard

 

For students:

Click on the Student Notebook

Enter the School Name –            (see your counselor for this information)

Enter the password –

Click Login

*After the first time, the computer will remember the name and password

Click in the radio button next to the grade level and Click GO

Any announcements will be listed on the next screen

Click Go

Click on one of the traits in the Traits Menu

Students will have 5 different activities to choose from:

Lessons:  Age-appropriate mini-courses (about 15 minutes) relating to the selected traits, rewarded with a certificate

Stories:  Students can write stories that describe their experiences regarding the specific character trait

Do-It-Yourself Activities:  Printable pages of activities that can be done individually (word searches, matching, etc.)

Classroom Activities:  Designed to be done with a group of students

Resources:  Reference to other materials that may be useful in teaching or demonstrating the character trait

 

 

For Teachers:

Click on the Teacher Log-in icon

Enter the School Name –             (see your counselor for this information)

Enter the password –

Choose your grade level from the drop down menu

Click Login

Any announcements will be listed on the next screen

Click GO

You will see the Teacher Notebook Activities Menu:

New Stories:  Review new stories submitted by your students

*Stories are not posted on the web site until they are reviewed by you.  For each story you can:  edit the story, display the story, delete the story, or hold the story so the students can’t view it on the website yet.  If the story is exceptional, you can click the box next to “Submit for global publication” and the story will submitted to the web site staff to possibly post at other schools.

Stories on hold:  Review previous stories submitted by your students that were put on hold and are not currently available for viewing by students

All Stories:  Review all stories

*Any story may be edited or deleted even after it is posted.   

Resources:  contains links and reference to materials, including the CharacterEd.net Teacher’s Guide

Set Announcements:  Post an Announcement to be seen by students & teachers at your school

Set Grade:  set default grade for the computer you are working on

Change Grade: Change the grade level you have selected

Set Certificate:  Choose to either allow the student to type in his/her name to be printed on the certificate or leave a blank space to write in the name after it is printed

Remove default school:  Remove the login information from the computer

Show report:  View login statistics for your school

Logout:  Logs you out & returns to the home page (It is important to always logout!)
