The Three Musketeers
In the Spring of 2003, a crew of very talented Loyola students presented a fantastic and action-packed rendition of Max Bush's stage adaptation of Alexander Dumas' novel, "The Three Musketeers".
"The Three Musketeers" is the story of D'Artagnan, a country boy who travels to Paris to see Monsieur de Treville, the Captain of the Musketeers, in hopes of becoming one of the illustrious group. Instead , he manages to offend all three of the most infamous Musketeers, Porthos, Aramis and Athos. They all challenge him to duels, but just as they begin to fight, Cardinal Richelieu's guards come along and D'Artagnan ends up helping the Musketeers. In doing so, he proves his loyalty to the trio and they agree to let him join them. However, they soon become entangled in the Cardinal's plot to ruin the Queen of France, and they embark upon a journey to save the Kingdom. Along the way, D'Artagnan becomes ensnared in the twisted plot of the evil Lady de Winter and the Comte de Rochefort, but he manages to outwit them both, save the Queen and he even finds love with her maid, the beautiful Constance Bonacieux. In the end, D'Artagnan is rewarded, as are all good heroes, and he becomes a Musketeer!
It was a difficult play to stage, but all of the performers worked hard to make it a success. One of the biggest challenges lay in the fact that there was a great deal of stage fighting that revolved around the use of foils, or swords. The performers and director therefore enlisted the help of fight choreographer Daniel Levinson, and with his guidance, they learned the basic techniques of swordplay. They became quite adept at handling the sabrehilt epee swords and they ended up choreographing all of the seat-gripping fight scenes on their own! They could not have done this without the perseverance and team spirit that they had.
Come take a look around at the photos of the play, and at the list of cast and crew!
The Production crew of "The Three Musketeers" consisted of Mark Bronson, Richard Hogan, Andrew Wilcox and the Sound and Light Team.
