staff The long-simmering issue of development at Glencoe Cove in Gordon Head
will go to public hearing April 27, perhaps signalling an end to debate over
building density and park dedication on the waterfront acreage. Saanich
council members approved the move Monday after the Stanrick Group, the
development company for the 16.4-hectare Glencoe property, submitted a
development scheme that scaled down last September's proposal. It calls for
an expanded 3.3-hectare waterfront park that takes in Gordon Point on the
southern end of Glencoe Cove, and decreases the overall request for dwelling
units to 88 from 99. The new
proposal cedes 4.91 hectares of park area, up from 2.87 in September. Debra
Sandborn, who heads the neighborhood group Friends of Glencoe Cove, said the
increased size of the park offer is a step in the right direction that offers
the possibility of a "greenway concept" linking the park to the
shore. Sandborn and
her group would like to see a 5.3-hectare waterfront park at the cove. |
