RICHARD BRACEWELL IV
b. 1730
Edgecombe Co., NC
m: 1764 to Agnes Proctor
b. c. 1755-60
d. 1785
Laurens County, Georgia
Richard and Agnes had many sons; only 2 of these sons reached maturity.
His daughter Elizabeth is said to be the first girl born to the Bracewell
family in America. They raised their family until almost grown, in NC.
After the Revolution, they sold out and Richard moved his large family
to Georgia. He settled on Briar Creek in Burke County. "The climate proved
very deleterious to his children and several died."
Richard then moved the family to Washington (now Lawrence) County, and
settled on the Oconee River. (At that time it was the dividing line between
the Indians and the white settlers.) In a few years, all but three of his
children were dead.
It has been said that Richard served in the American Revolution.
