Captain MORGAN (MOD) MORGAN b. 20 Dec 1746 Berkley Co., WVA d. 1829 Catawba, WVA (will proved September 1829.) m: 1770 to Mary DRUSILLA PRICKETT Served under Capt. Zachquil Morgan, his uncle, in Lord Dunmore's War. A Lt. in Capt. Wm. Haymond's Co of VA Militia at Prickett's Ft. April 15 - June 12 1777. Rev. # S31265 He later was a Captain. He is buried at old Harperstown Cem., near White Day Creek. Morgan is listed in the records of Morgan Chapel, as David's oldest son. In 1773, when he was 27 years old, his father moved to the Monongahela Valley. Morgan made the trek with his wife, Drusilla Prickett, and his young son Achilles. Not a great deal is known about this Morgan. His will lists thirteen children; but, his daughter Elizabeth said that there was a daughter named Cynthia, bringing it up to fourteen. Mod Morgan died at age 83. At the time of his death, he was living on White Day creek, near Catawaba, WV. He served Monongalia county as a Justice of the Peace, up until 17 Aug 1815. Morgan was a slave owner. He desired that his female slaves be emancipated at the age of 24; males at the age of 33. From his will, he seems to have owned at least 5. (At the time the will was written, it was 2 adult Females; Elizabeth, and Delila, who had 3 infants between them.) His will is given on pp 118-120 of French Morgan's book. The will itself, is recorded in Will book 1, page 45, at Morgantown, WV. Not mentioned in the will. Elizabeth says she was married. Morgan "Paddy Mod" b.22 June 1774 d. 28 Aug 1868 m: Mary Hoult 5/25/1801 Story of shot pouch & fear of Indians. Lived on Fishing Creek. Born during an Indian attack, while family was on the way to the fort. Short and heavyset. A farmer & helped his grandfather David survey. Was blind in his last years, but still worked around the farm. Buried in the family cem. at the farm on Fishing Creek, near Porter's Falls.
