Note: JOSEPH is brother to JOHN BUNNER
JOSEPH served in the American Revolution, along
with his brother JOHN in the Eighth Regiment,
Pennsylvania. (pp. 334 N&LA)
According to the book "DESCENDANTS OF CASPER
BUNNER AND MARY CHRISTINA BROWN" compiled by
Gale J. Bunner,(1985), found in the Marion Co.,
WV, Library in West Virginia:
JOSEPH BUNNER "enlisted in Pennsylvania and served
three years under Captains Nelson, Grant and Davis.
He served in the Pennsylvania Continental Line under
Col. Butler, Gen. Wayne, and Lord Stirling. Served
in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, etc."

It goes on to say: "When he went to Philadelphia to
get his depreciated pay, he was so long detained
that he sold his pay for three guineas,
and gave up his discharge."
Applied for pension, 27 May 1818, Monongalia Co.,
WV, at age 66.
Wife, aged 60 in 1820, name not given....
JOSEPH'S brother, JOHN, saw similar service, but
died in 1810, so there is no pension file for him.
These two soldier-pioneer patriots, of the
Monongahela Valley, lie buried side by side in the
Malone Cemetery, Monongalia County, WV,
"D.A.R. gravestones of high honor mark their graves."
