History

In 1997 the idea came up to Charl de Villiers, a hearing impaired Texas referee to get a team together of South-Africans who live and play rugby in the state  of Texas. The whole idea was to introduce the South-African culture of "Braaivleis, rugby, Boerewors and the passion for the game rugby" to the American public. The first team was selected in 1997 and played at the state capitol in the annual Austin tournament. The team was a big success and played in the final and lost to the Austin Huns.

Since then the Texas Kwaggas played every year in the tournament and became synonym with the Austin Tournament.

In 2001 the Kwaggas beat the hosts and won their first title.

The team defend the title in 2002 and stayed undefeated.

The team consist every year of a few Americans, and rugby players from all over the globe who share the Kwagga spirit.

In 2003 the Kwagga team played in the Galveston Tournament and won the Trophy.

The Kwagga team got together and won the Fort Worth Cowtown Tournament in October.
