PART 1: Possesing the land

(Priorities of a God-Chaser) PS GRAEME LESKE Ex 33 : 11 Joshua was a pursuer of God. Pursuing God must be a priority over pursuing the promised land. Joshua was passionate about the promises but his priority was God! What can we learn from Joshua's priorities?
(1.) P - pursuing God. Ps 63 : 1 - 8 Joshua stayed in the tent of meeting - he wanted to be in God's presence, seeking and pursuing Him. Psalm 42 Desire, hunger, searching for God. Seek God's 'face' before His 'hand'. Keep focus on the relationship with God and not on the blessings - if we don't the relationship will deteriorate. Joshua knew the ways of God because He pursued God. Prayer is seeking God first and foremost, seeking His will and purposes. We become dissatisfied and frustrated when we don't understand God's ways and heart. When was the last time you spent time with God without asking Him for anything?
2. R - rebuilding altars. Rom 12 : 1; Heb 13 : 10 The altar is a place of sacrifice and consecration - a place of worship. We don't have physical altars but we have altars in our hearts where we worship. Our society has many altars - sport, TV, career, home, etc and people sacrifice many things for them. Our altar is our worship of God and sometimes we get sidetracked and we have to rebuild the altar. Our lives belong to God before anything else. We have to decide who we will serve. Build an altar of worship to God.
3. I - investing our lives. Matt 6 : 33 Invest our time, talent and treasure. Invest in the right things in life - the eternal things. Joshua invested his life in the will and purposes of God. Invest in the right things not just the good things. If we invest in the Kingdom of God we will reap a harvest of peace, a good conscience, an eternal reward. Investing in the wrong things leads to regret.
4. O - overcoming consistently. Rom 8 : 37; Rev 2 : 7 We are able to be overcomers no matter what our circumstances. 2 Cor 12 : 9 The biggest battle we have is with the flesh - our desires, emotions, attitudes, etc. God's grace is more than enough for us to overcome whatever we are dealing with. Lean on God's grace. Gal 5 : 22, 23.
