| The cam testing that I have done works in parallel with the the cylinder head design. Generally, 16V's are more intake efficient vs. exhaust efficient. This is why the smaller intake cam and the larger exhaust cam work well together. Too large of an intake cam will result in a lack of air velocity, which is responsible for the lack of torque, throttle response, and horsepower. The exhaust must be able to evacuate the "consumed" air. The amount of port work will determine the appropriate size difference between the two cams. The more equal you can get the port efficiency, than the closer in duration and lift the cams can be. Also, while preparing a "big" cam motor, intake and exhaust / header choices are very important. |
