Insurance

Key words – speeding, fines, registration

Insurance for minor scrapes etc is impossible to obtain in Kuwait (no third party etc) because you will acquire any number of such marks on your car no matter how careful you are. People just don’t care about whether they mark someone else’s car and they will disappear quickly if they scratch your car in the car park. Any mark on your car is considered possibly to be from an accident and it is likely that your car company will not repair it without an “accident report” even if it is not your fault. If you have a private car, mechanics are also wary of repairing scrapes as the police would crucify them if they get caught doing work without all the accident paperwork in place. This of course takes time (your time) to register and get the “crash expert” to see your car before all the necessary paper work is done. Don’t even think of going to the police station to do this yourself unless you speak fluent Arabic as you’ll be fobbed off. At the end of the day if you have a company car, you may find that the dent in the door is accepted by your company or the hire company and is dealt with by them thus making your trip to the police unnecessary.

Health

Several hospitals exist but few are used by western expatriates. The International Clinic is not a hospital but will deal with most typical situations through appointments. Everything at the IC is charged for including registration and if you want peace of mind to supplement what you are provided with through your employer then this can be got here.
