Eve teasing
If you have traveled in India you may have heard this expression before which refers to men hassling women. Most of it by western standards is trivial and pathetic however it is wrong and is not condoned in Kuwait. If you feel threatened to best thing to do is seek a public place and ask for help. You can shout at the man concerned and that normally makes them disappear because they won�t like to be seen for what they are � hassling women. One experience I heard involved a western woman who had been approached by some young man in an expensive car with some toe-curling line like �do you want to have fun with me?� This woman did not panic, did not scream or shout but calmly responded to the bloke concerned by playing dumb. As he clearly was not going to describe what he had in mind she said that bit for him in a suitably loud voice. �Oh you want a **** then?� Needless to say he disappeared pronto while help arrived from the shop in the form of the security guard who had heard the shout.
Kuwait IS a safe place for women and all the usual rules of looking after yourself apply here as anywhere.
Something to explain regarding Arab men propositioning women in Kuwait as it was explained to me. Men of any age it seems will prefer to proposition older western women and those that have wedding rings are prime targets. The reasoning goes that a younger women is more likely to be single and therefore should any �accident� happen, it would be the man�s responsibility. Should a married woman get pregnant, her husband is responsible (of course). |
