Directions

Key words - yes?

Never ask a question that can be answered yes (unless you have two people who always answer correctly and incorrectly, then that works). As the observation goes if you have two people as above on a fork in the road, one always answers truthfully to the question while the other always gives the opposite answer to the question. As you dont know which person answers correctly etc, what is the only question you can ask either of them to get the right answer? *

Unless you meet these sorts of people (but how will you know?), NEVER ask a question regarding directions that can be answered yes. Yes could mean (1) that is the way to Al Hamra Street, (2) I dont understand the question and I will look silly if I say no or (3) I dont know but again I dont want to appear of no help so Ill say yes. So if your question I want to go to Al Hamra Street is answered yes then they dont understand the question and you should move on. It is better to ask several people rather than expect the first answer to be correct and go off on a wild duck chase.

* The only way to go down the right route is to ask the following question which works if directed to either person - "if I was to ask your friend here which route would he take, what answer would they give?" - it does work - try it.
