Kaioh Michiru/Sailor
Neptune
Michiru usually means "to become
full" or to be completed. The characters kai and oh stand
for "sea king", an obvious reference to the Roman god Neptune
or the greek god Poseidon, who is symbolized with water. As
opposed to Mercury, who seems to have water-based powers,
Neptune has, more specifically, power over the oceans. Neptune
and Pisces stand for creativity, and acute emotional
sensitivity towards spirituality and the arts. Pisceans rely
heavily on their super-ego and thus are able to elevate
themselves to understand love and laughter on a higher plane
than the others. They are intense dreamers, and often find
themselves leaving reality to go into their own little
world.
(Roman Neptune; Greek Olympian
Poseidon.) These two are the god of sea. He may be derived
from the Etruscan god of water, Nethuns. Husband of
Salacia. Unfortunately, the Roman god Neptune is
less popular, unlike Poseidon. Sailorneptunes power is
connected the power of water but its deep sea unlike Mercury,
the water turns into ice. He is the son of Saturn and Ops
(Cronus and Rhea in Greek) and brother of Vesta, Jupiter,
Pluto and Juno (Hestia, Zeus, Hades and Hera in Greek.)
Neptunes counterpart Poseidon attributes the animal dolphin.
In addition, one of Poseidons attributes is the trident,
which originates Neptunes sign. He is also the god of horses
and earthquake. Like his brother Zeus, he has many love
affairs; I think thats where Michirus flirty attitude came
from.
His festival, the Neptunalia, was
held on July 23, the height of the midsummer drought, probably
a reference to Neptune's original role as a god of the fresh
waters essential to agriculture. Otherwise, Neptune's
representation in art and literature was essentially identical
with that of
Poseidon. |
