Blue Seed Characters Page

Blue Seed has some of the most memorable characters in all of anime, sometimes they can be a little shallow, making
you wish that they showed more detail about the character, but there are points where you just have to say wow in
amazement.Good voice acting (for both the dubbed and subtitled versions) and relatable characters engulfs you in a
world where Aragami try to overrun the world.

(Warning: I might've unintentionally put some spoilers on theis section of the site,so please proceed with caution)

As you probably already knew (or guessed), Momiji is the heroine and main character of Blue Seed. She was only 15 when the show and she goes to the local high school in Izumo( where a lot of Japanese myths take place),where she was born and raised.She was brought up a Miko (Shinto priestess),engaging in puirification rituals wtih the help of her wise grandmother.She is unaware of her bloodline( therefore unaware of ther destiny) as a decendant of the Kushinada.This means that her blood can send an anicient and evil race of monsters called the Aragami, to a deep slumber.Momiji is a shy person, although she can be frindly once you get to know her.She never fogets to put on a smile even, despite the fact of what can happen to her in order to stop the Aragami. She admits to not being a very smart person and says that she is a 35 percentile in her class.Her powers as a Kushinada was increased somewhat when she recieves a mitama form Orochi in the at the beginning of the series. She develops a certain attraction to Kusanagi,despite the fact that she thinks that he is a jerk,especially that he has this peculiar liking to peek at Momiji's panties (you've got to watch these parts of the series!).Did I mention that she hates cucumbers just like Kusanagi(!)? She is a given a Colt 45 when she becomes a part of the TAC, but I seriously doubt that she can really shoot it due to the fact that she is a natural klutz(she's pretty cute when she's all klutzy like that). Her name means "maple" in Japanese.

Kusanagi Mamoru (back to top)

Kusanagi is the protector of the Kushinada("Mamoru" meaning to guard or protect in Japanese).He was given seven mitama by Orochi (who btw, killed his parents) to protect the Kushinada from being sacrificed or something ,or else its bedtime for all of the Aragami.He's been watching Kaede all of her life , so when she was apparently gone (perhaps forever), he blamed himself for not being there and just decided to finish off the other Kushinada so that he can be free (I guess protecting the Kushinada must be some sort of compulsion). Forunately for Momiji, he ends up not finishing her off ( it is unclear whether this this was because of his compulsion to protect the Kushinada or his feelings). Being half Aragami, Kusanagi has some superhuman abilities (like the ability to sprout plant-like blades form his arms). Kusanagi has a kind of a macho lone-wolf kind of attitude going on. Sometimes he can be quite dense, saying thing that he ought to not say (I think he doesn't really mean those harsh things he says most of the time, its just part of his loner attitude). He CAN be thick-headed, refusing to recieve any support from anyone even though he really needs it. Despite all of that, Kusanagi has a soft side (though he'll never admit it) that Momiji fails to bring out of him, but manages to blow her off time and time again. Will Kusanagi ever change? Watch Blue Seed to find out more! "kusa" in his name means grass while "Kusanagi-no-tsurugi" means grass-cutting sword.

Kunikida Daitetsu (back to top)

Kunikida is the current cheif of the Terrestrial Administration Center (TAC). He used to work for the Imperial Household Agency, where he deals with stuff related to the Imperial family. He's the series "father/boss-like figure," and seems to be really warm and caring person who cares alot for his friends and loved ones. He's famous for making puns, claiming that in his Imperial agency, people called him "God of laughs, Smiley Kunikida." ^_^ .....whatever! Anyways, he was born in Tokyo to a family who has the responsibility to protect Japan. Despite his duties Kunikida loves his country, especially its nature. He is usually cool and calm, however on the inside he blames himself for what happend to her adopted daughter, Kaede, saying that he was not a good enough of a father to her. ( "Kuni" in his name means country (makes sense since he loves Japan) and "ki" means...uh....I think it was tree or somethin'.

Takeuchi Ryoko (back to top)

Ryoko was bornin Sapporo, Hokkaido, where she was suppose to work for a bank after graduation. She soon ditches that idea and joins the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Force, where she gained the title of sergeant.Like Kunikida, she has a clam, quick-thinking personality and is not afraid to lay it all down (figuratively speaking) for the the people she cares for. She used to go out with Shugishita, but that was in the past, now she has feelings for no other than Mr.Kunikida himself (lucky son of a....), that he seems to accept and returns. She is an exellent marksman (or is that markswoman?). I've noticed that she seems to be aiming her gun with her right eye? How the heck can she do that with her hair covering that eye? Oh well...that's just one of life's many unsolved mysteries. "Take" in her name means bamboo.(?)

Matsudaira Azusa (back to top)

Azusa is probably one of the most underrated indiviuals in Blue Seed . Without her expertice in biotechnology (with a degree in biology) the TAC (not to mention Japan) would've probably gone to pieces by now.She was a housewife at one time with her only son, Jun (did I spell this right?). Never the one to just sit down and do nothing, Azusa joined the Science and Technology Agency. Her and Yaegashi often join to make the next big anti-Aragami weapon. She is often called "Matsu" by the younger TAC members. She hates the fact that she hasn't been spending that much time with her son. Regardless of that, she keeps her chin up. "Matsu" in her name means pine tree.

Yoshiki Yaegashi (back to top)

Yaegashi is a computers expert who was transferred from the EPA (Economic Planning Agency). He was born in Sendai. He has a father who is in the upper ranks of the Defence Agency and has a mothern who was born into nobility(there is no more nobility after WW II). Yaegashi is soft-spoken and can be pretty cowardly sometimes, that's why Kome always teases him. Due to his shy mild nature, he can be somewhat....uh, uncoordinated at times. Oh well.... at least his heart is in the right place! "Gashi" are the stems of "kashi"' which is oak in Japanese. "Yoshiki" means good tree...somehow I doubt that was a coincidence....hmmmm....

Sawaguchi Kome (back to top)

Kome is a trigger-happy maniac who was born in downtown Tokyo. She got tranferred out of the JGSDF, where her nickname was "Hurricane". She was particularly unhappy when she got moved to the TAC and even beats the stuffing out of her former boss for it! She loves weapons and is great with them,even though not necessarilly a sharpshooter. All I know is that she gets really frustrated if she's not trying out any new "toys." According to one of the Omake theaters, Kome is (or at least used to be) a poet. She fraked out when Momiji tried to clean all of her guns as a gift of somesort to her( poor Momiji!). Kome really hated her for that, but over time she grew fond of her and even starts giving her love advice (I'm not really sure if Kome is really the right person who should be giving Momiji love advice....at least Kome's never afraid to share whatever's on her mind, no matter what it is.). Kome is valuable ally in the battle against the evil Aragami, even thogh almost all the eime she rushes into danger head on without thinking(this is mainly due to her terribly short fuse).This all makes sense once you realize that her odiac sign is Aries ( who was the god of war in greek mythology ). "Ume" means plum in Japanese....so Koume means small plum.

Kaede Kunikida (back to top)

Kaede is Momiji's twin sister. Oviously her Momiji were born in the Izumo region in Japan. She was adopted by Mr.Kunikida when she was very little, that's why Momiji doesn't even know that she has a sister (especially not a twin sister). Kaede is a smart, yet very shy individual. She is also very graceful, and very gentle (being soothing to the eyes helps as well...doesn't it?). She was origianlly the Kushinada that Kusanagi was suppose to protect. Her apparent "disappearance" at the start of the show was devastating the most to Kusanagi and Kunikida, both of them blaming themselves for what happend. Like her foster father, Kaede loves Japan and its nature. Kaede means is another name for Maple in Japanese. "Kaen" also means flower garden. While "kaedama" means double (makes sense since she's Momiji's twin).

Yamazaki Sakura (back to top)

Sakura was born in Suwa, Nagano. She lost her mother 15 years ago ( see episode 18 beacuse I don't wanna spoil it for Blue Seed newbies). Since then she grew up alone, until she was taken care of by foundation from the US after realizing that she was a psychic. Sakura is the very pinnacle of the word egomaniac, yet she is still very likable(after seeing episode 18 you probably won't balme her for being that way, trust me).She is what she calls a "faith-healer", using charms to summon spiritual monsters to battlle the Aragami horde. Someday she wants to be filthy, stikin' rich and become a teen idol. She wears a red and white temple outfit (similar to Rei Hino's outfit in sailor moon) and those big, swirly glasses that nerds/geeks often wear in anime(anime can get so stereotypical somtimes ^_- ). "Sakura" means cherry blossoms or cherry trees.

Shugishita Shunichi (back to top)

Shugishita is probably the least popular character in Blue Seed simply because he only shows up when there is Aragami to alert the TAC for. Heck! Even Momiji's granma showed up more times in the series than he ever did. His role increases more in Blue Seed 2....buuut that's another story for another day! Shugishita and Ryoko used to have a relationship... oviously, that is ancient history. He's not that bad of a person though once you get to know him (really!). "Sugi" means Japanese cedar.

Murakumo (back to top)

Murakumo is the loyal servant of Susanooh. He has 8 mitamas (unlike Kusanagi,who only has 7), so he considers himself a perfect soul (talk about narcissistic). He has all of Kusanagi's powers -- like sprouting blades from his arms, grow armor, teleport, agility, super jumping , super speed and strength.the only power he has that Kusanagi doesn't have is the ability to fly (I know this might not seem so much, but it still gives him an edge over our green-haired hero). He wants to revive Susanooh and have the Aragami rule Japan and then the world. Much of his personality is cloaked in mystery." Ama-no-Murakumo-no-tsurugi" means heavenly gathering of clouds sword (also see mythology section).
