Pretty details

I believe it is best to explain what Kuru Eruna is first. Well, Kuru Eruna is a village in the Egypt Arch season that is highly important to the plot of the Yuugiou series. In fact,it is a center aspect of the manga. Why? Well this village was the birth place of the Sennen items and is showed off and on throughout the series. The village that Shadi was in with Pegasus, the Egyptian figure of gold that holds the items and the subs mention by Dark Bakura of Cleruna. Yeah, this is it. It is also the climax of the Thief King Bakura series and a huge detail to Bakura.

Well, now to the story behind all of this. Kuru Eruna was supposibily a villlage of thieves nicknamed Thief Town. That infamous gold thing Well, Egpyt was at war and decided they needed some aid. So they slaughtered a whole village and melted 99 down to make the Sennen items. Charming, no? Well this was all done without the Pharaoh Akunumkanon knowing a thing. After he found out, it was quite a shock that he had ordered something so horrid and he died leaving the throne to Atem. For years, everyone failed to mention that to him.

Well Atem grew up in the dark on things and believed the Sennen Items to be instruments of peace. However, their sinister creation made them quite the opposite. They were full of corruption and bitterness. This is thanks to the very angry spirits who were used in their creation.

This thing again. The village despite its role in Egypt Arch appeared only a small number of times. It was introduced in Chapter 287 of the manga by Thief King Bakura. It was relatively confusing at the time as you have no idea what it is. It doesn't help that Akunadin freaking and said "Kuru ... Eruna Village!!" It makes you feel like you missed something. However this is cut pretty short and foreshadowing ensues. The next time it is really pulled into the spotlight is in a flashback in Chapter 308. It shows the villages destruction by Akunadin and Bakura watching in the background. Another important appearance was the final battle between Bakura and Atem. This takes place in Kuru Eruna and its tortured souls make a full appearance which made me very happy. The battle is a long one and involves no Duel monsters. Its a Ka duel with no Sennen items as the souls interfere with the magic of them. The battle is off and on between conversations the characters have in Chapters 313 to even after Thief King is gone around 322.

GO DIABOUND!Bakura was the only survivor of the Kuru Eruna massacre. This is most likely a huge factor in why he is the way he is and why he hates the Pharaoh Atem/Yami Yuugi. Its all for revenge and the fact that the Sennen Ring drove him insane. This is a huge detail in his character. It cannot be overlooked in understanding his behavior and motivation. The fact is Bakura is very obsessive in nature. He spent 3000 years, more or less, trying to avenge a tiny village in the desert. This shows a great deal about his character. This brings me to my next point, Bakura is loyal. Its a huge aspect of his personality. A lot of people see him as only doing this for his own gain throughout the series or out of sheer hatred for authority. However this hardly explains his behavior in Egypt Arch. He wouldn't go up against upbeatable odds without a pretty good reason. There is no real gain in going into a palace by yourself with 6 priests, a Pharaoh, a million guards and a huge collection of monsters all ready to kill anyone willing to pull the stunt. Even if, it was for power, there is no way to do it. You'd have to wipe out every heir to the throne. He wasn't trying to at all. He wanted the Pharaoh dead. He didn't care about anything else. It was a loyal act. He thought his village was wronged. He was going to right it and became obsessed with his self appointed goal. So obsessed that he decided to take on the entire Egyptian government.

However, things slowly begin to change when he aquired the Sennen Ring. This is most envident in Diabound as he slowly slipped from his angelic appearance. The ring is pretty much why he is the way he is in the series in current time. The ring, being as corrupt as it is due to the spirits of Kuru Eruna, kind of automatically tries to corrupt its holder. Mahado, being a trained priest, probably learned how to resist the ring's corruption. Bakura, being a common thief with a gift for using his Ka as a weapon, would have no knowledge of such techniques and probably doesn't know he is suppose to. Then even if he did, which is indeed pushing it quite a bit, would never expect the villagers' spirits to try to do such a thing especially to him. As he pretty much always trusted them and even in their rage. As the spirits were moaning and such, he sat through in the center of the temple.

Firstly, I should say who Akunadin is. I'm sure most know by now but some may not. Akunadin is the priest Very bad manin posession of the Sennen eye and he is also Priest Set's father and the brother of Pharaoh Akunumkanon. Yes, this does indeed make Set and Atem cousins. But this hasn't much or less to do with Kuru Eruna. He however does. Akunadin was the one who ordered and lead the Kuru Eruna massacre. He basically found an evil magic book and found a way to make Sennen items. I geuss it was your average evil spell book created never to be used that was left casually out in the open for some psycho to use on helpless villagers. Well he brought it to Akunumkanon and said we can use this evil magic to win. Akunumkanon disagreed but Akunadin went on with it anyway. He goes out with a bunch of soliders and pretty much demolished the town supposably full of thieves. Well, if they were, they were pretty docile thieves. None of the villagers fought back and none had weapons. Facts are they had kids in the village. So they slaughtered a village full of disarmed adults and children who were in an evil town full of thieves. This is looking more and more unlikely by the minute.

Well, he also has some kind of other self called Zork who kinda manipulates Bakura into joining him and exorcises the Kuru Eruna villagers' souls. Besides that I have no idea what this guy is.

Now I'm sure you've heard a lot of spellings for Kuru Eruna. We all have. The fact is Kuru Eruna was Kuru Eruna Villagewritten in Japanese Katakana and so no one really knows how to spell it exactly. It is written as "Kuru . Eruna Village" in all of the mangas. However, the Japanese alphabet or character system leaves out the leters "L", "V" and "C". These letters are replaced by "R", "B" and "K". So there is no way of knowing whether the R's in Kuru Eruna were suppose to be L's. However that is only one of the problems. The Japanese language is based on syllables of a consonant then a vowell. Therefore any word of foreign orgin with two consonats has a vowel added between. However we can't tell wheather the vowels in Kuru Eruna were a Japanese adaption or intentional. See the problem. Different people use different spellings. It can vary quite a bit from person to person. Some of the chosen spellings are Kuru Eruna, Kuru Elna, Kru Elna, Kuru Eluna, Klu Eruna, Kulu Eluna and, my prefered, Kur Elna. All are pretty valid and can be used.
