A given force over a period of time is equal to impulse. The force on an object over a period of time is also equal to the change in velocity multiplied by the mass.
F t = m x a
Impulse is generally related to momentum when dealing with situations that involve time. Whether the situation involves something that is moving very fast or very slow. A situation that would involve something moving fast could be a drag race car that moves fast compared to someone that is jogging. Impulse is basically Newton's second law and has time involved.
