CHARLIE BROOKER
| Ages ago, when the Kurtodrome was a young and fresh site (yeah, late last century) we linked to a site called TV Go Home. Turns out the man behind the site was one Charlie Brooker who has since become a regular tv critic for The Guardian (his column is called Screen Burn) and the host of the very fine BBC4 programme Screenwipe (also repeated on BBC2 in the middle of the night). Since we can't receive BBC4 over here and most of you are sleeping or surfing late at night, it's great that Charlie has a dedicated fan who has put the entire four series of the show on his YouTube channel. |
YOU HAVE NO IDEA!
| Today the World of Warcraft characters use a song to tell us what the internet was made for. Allegedly. To download: here. |
PIRACY SPINS A GLOBAL WEB
| Sony was extremely careful not to have a single image of Spiderman 2 leak out. Then, at 12.01am, the movie got its first showing and guess what happened within hours. What happens when there's someone with a camera in the movie audience can be read in this Yahoo article. |
ALICIA WITT INTERVIEW
|
Proving we're always last with the news, listen to this: Alicia Witt, the excellent actress who's been one of our covergirls for 4 years now (only Jennifer Jason Leigh has managed stay on our site for a longer period), played a considerable part in Neil LaBute's (stage) play The Shape of Things. Just before Neil LaBute's play opened in London's West End (it played there May-July 2004 - and yes, we're gutted to only read that NOW), the BBC Radio 4 show Woman's Hour talked to Alicia Witt who plays its manipulative anti-heroine Evelyn. However, all is not lost: the interview can still be listened to on the BBC site. |
THE PUNCTUATIONS AND THE PATENTS
|
You may have noticed Yahoo has been having some problems with punctuation marks, especially the apostrophe (') and the Umlaut. All this made us go and look for punctuation marks and that's when we found out that not only did the exclamation comma and the question comma exist, but that they are also patented. So why do we need these new commas? Read all about it in the patent file. |
LOOK AROUND YOU 2
|
Nothing pleases us more than the welcome return of Look Around You, one of the best comedy shows of the 21st Century. The first 8 shows from series one (each lasting 10 minutes and on tv just before The League of Gentlemen) were an excellent parody of School Television from the Seventies. On Monday January 31 Look Around You will return to BBC2 (23.00 CET), but now the episodes will be a) half an hour long and b) situated in the 80s. The first episode will give you an idea of what people from 1980 thought music would be like in the year 2000. Ready for the wackiest tv show in a long time? Then reserve a TV seat for Monday night. Can't wait? Well, all you scientific scoundrels can visit the Look Around You website. A website is a test you can read on a computer (we predict that both the computer and the website industry will be very big in the year 2000). |

So who is the mastermind behind George W. Bush's speeches? Comedy Central had a most revealing interview with the speech writer. |
DENNIS LEARY WISHES YOU ALL THE BEST
|
Hate this time of year? Well, good news because Santa may not have brought you a present, but stand-up comedian Dennis Leary has. Currently to be very much enjoyed over at the Comedy Central website, the claymation version of Merry Fucking Christmas. |
DO THEY KNOW IT'S AWFUL? THE BAND AID DILEMMA
|
The Band Aid Dilemma... You want this record to succeed, because you feel for the plight of the refugees in the Darfur region of Sudan and this project is funding aid projects on their behalf. However, you hate this recording and feel your musical ego looming and refusing to be bruised. The answer? Buy as many copies of Do They Know It's Christmas by Band Aid 20 as you can afford and destroy them in amusing ways, on camera. Band Aid Dilemma shows you the pictures. "Charity. Violence. You know it makes sense." |
R.I.P. JOHN PEEL
| John Peel is dead/dood. English: His Radio 1 page was turned into a tribute page by the BBC. If you'd like to listen to a Peel show from the eighties, follow the ALT.3voor12 link in the Dutch text (the show starts after a news report and an obituary in Dutch, so you might want to skip the first 5 minutes). |
THE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION (ABRIDGED VERSION)
| If you always wanted to know what the Republican Convention (held in New York in late August / early September) was about, someone at a site called Buzzflash was kind enough to compile a "best of". Watch it here. |

STAND UP AND BE COUNTED: Edinburgh's 50 best jokes
| The British paper The Independent went to the Edinburgh Festival. More than 400 performers are currently demonstrating the art of cutting-edge comedy on and beyond the Fringe. Louise Jury presents a selection of the gags that have gone down well. |
PRIJS THEO
