Sony has begun an ambitious plan to popularize
Gumby in Japan. Merchandise first hit the market in November and new releases
are coming every few months. An amazing number of quality products are
now available.

At the launch Sony brought Art Clokey over from the US for 9 days of promotion, introduction to the Sony staff, dinners and celebrations everynight and tours of Tokyo. He was feted like a rock star. It was a wonderful experience. The people of Japan opened their hearts to the man who brought Gumby to the world. Below are pictures showing the launch and Sony's activities in bringing Gumby to Japan. Obviously they have done a phenomenal job! Gumby is on his way to take his rightful place among the pantheon of characters here. |
