I don't "wish" very often, but when I do, I usually wish for either a happy family, or, that my kids will just grow up slowly. Ashley is almost 9 years old. 9 years old..... I can't believe it. It seems like such a short time ago, that she cut her first tooth.
Ethan, my little Prince is 3 months now. It feels like last week the doctor laid him on my belly and asked Kurt to cut the cord. Kurt can't wait for Ethan to grow up, just a little, so they can play ball, etc. I just want to hold him.....

	Everyone tells you that it flies by - your baby's infancy and all the sweetness that comes with it. Total strangers offered up this bit of wisdom to me as I stood with my newborn on an elevator or in the park. And while I didn't exactly disbelieve them, it was hard to imagine what they meant. After all, I've never felt so totally absorbed in anything. I spent every day immersed in my baby: the lovely smell of his head, the biscuity softness of his fists, the gentle music of his cries. Now I know: These moments disappear, buried like layers of sediment beneath all the new moments that come. Tomorrow your baby will run across the floor to hug you, draw a picture of you, tell you a silly joke, drive off to college in a car. Tomorrow will replace today. And break your heart. And fill you with elation. Still, from time to time, something will cut through those layers: a photograph, a tiny sock, a song. I have been singing to my babies and have discovered that music has amazing power over them. Music may calm your baby. But play it for yourself too. Years from now, when you hear a familiar song, you'll suddenly recall the soft beanbag weight of your baby dozing in your arms.
