-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Kagome, Inuyasha, Sango, and Miroku finally headed back to camp at about two hours ‘till midnight, all four people tired, exhausted, and either really happy, or really ticked off.

Inuyasha immediately headed towards the tree, pouncing and settling onto the lowest branch, while Sango sat a good distance away from him, still somewhat angered by the days’ earlier events.

So, Kagome and Miroku turned out to be the only happy ones amongst them all. Kagome sat down tiredly on her sleeping bag, and peered curiously around the camp.

“Oi, where is Shippou-chan?” She asked, furrowing her eyebrows, and looking slightly worried.

“Feh. Who cares.” came a gruff voice from the branch above. Kagome stuck her tongue up at him.

“If I didn’t care, I wouldn’t be asking, BAKA.” She retorted, crossing her arms indignantly. Miroku sighed, and stood up- against the will of his fatigue worn legs- and looked around.

“OI! SHIPPOU!” he called, frowning. Both Kagome and him listened for a moment, before she let out a small mewl.

“H-He couldn’t have gone far...” She shared a worried look with Miroku as he frowned “N-Ne?” She mumbled, seeking reassurance. Sango stood up, also starting to get apprehensive.

“Shippou-chan?: She asked, beckoning towards the night sky. No reply came, as all three shared a look. And then...., something fell from the branches of a looming tree, right into Sango's hair.

“KYAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!” She screamed, jumping around crazily, swatting at whatever dared to sit upon her scalp. Kagome burst out laughing, as Miroku started to chuckle. Because on top of her head, was Shippou.

Flexing the muscles that he did not have.

“BEHOLD! THE GREAT KITSUNE NO YOUKAI SHIPPOU!” He cried, striking another pose. Inuyasha appeared before Sango, bonking the Kit on the head. Shippou promptly fell off from Sango, and hit the ground, crying at the unfairness of it all.

“WAHHAAHAH! I guarded the camp, and this is how I’m repaid?” He whined. Kagome sighed, and picked up Shippou, settling back down on her sleeping bag where she proceeded to rock him back and forth.

“It’s Ok, Shippou-chan. We’re all very appreciative that you...um...guarded camp for us.” she said, trying to sound believable. Shippou looked proud, as he dived under the cover, and curled into a little ball.

After everyone had settled down for the night, it was pretty much quiet. Kagome thought she saw the only one left awake, as she hesitantly sat up, and pulled her bag close to her, starting to rummage through it.

Unbeknownst to the school girl, Miroku had also been lying awake the whole time, watching her curiously. He saw as she took out a small flashlight, and a book, and began to study the pages inside. Her eyes skimmed them wearily, and Miroku wondered how she could possibly memorize all that when she was obviously full of fatigue.

“Oi, Kagome-sama?” he asked, sitting next to her. Kagome blinked, and smiles at him.

“Oh, Konbanwa Miroku-sama. I was just...”

“Studying?” He guessed, rolling his eyes somewhat. Kagome frowned.

“Hai, you see, I have this big-”

“Exam?” he added. Kagome nodded once more, and Miroku pulled the book away from her.

“4x times 13/x equals? What is this stuff Kagome-sama?” He asked looking interested. Kagome frowned, and pulled he book back.

“Just stuff that i have to have memorized... or I’ll fail...” She mumbled, stifling a yawn. Miroku raised an eyebrow, and took the book away from her, and closed it, putting it in her pack. kagome blinked, and scowled at him, reaching out her hand.

“Oi, Miroku-sama! I need that!” She declared, but Miroku caught her hand and held it fast. kagome blushed slightly, as he had a look of seriousness in his eyes.

“Kagome-sama. I cannot let you do this when you are tired. But I will make sure that Inuyasha lets you go home to do this tomorrow, ok?” he said, trying to compromise. Kagome frowned slightly, and lay back down, giving up.

“Ok, Ok....” she mumbled, getting under the covers. Miroku smiles, and ruffled her bangs.

“Goof night, Kagome-sama.” He murmured, going back to his resting/tree position.

“I said drop the Sama Miroku...” She mumbled, falling asleep. Miroku opened an eye, before closing it.

“Gomen ne, Kagome.” He whispered, falling back to sleep.
