The Princess, Miss Lully also known as GP RW Kurisumasu Jitto's Komoriuta (meaning Jitto's Lullaby), passed over the rainbow bridge on a December morning. She held on long enough to say good-bye to my friend and co-breeder, Susan Eckert and me when we had so hoped she was getting better. She had been eating and drinking, but then stopped. Her blood work came back non-regenerative anemia, i.e. her bone marrow just stopped working and none of the three veterinarians knew why. We went to her and held her in her royal purple cuddle bed as befitting her status. She kissed Susan and I both on the nose then settled into my arms for about fifteen minutes. In order to spare her suffering, we made the decision to help her pass peacefully. Her friend Kara who had taken care of her on weekends was there, too.
Lully was a special baby as she was very sick when she was only six weeks old. She had to be force fed, put on antibiotics, and given sub-q fluids every night for two weeks. After our nightly ritual of medicating and feeding, she would be messy, so I would wash her off, then wrap her in a warm towel. We would lay down on the sofa and she would purr in my ear and with this sweet lullaby in my ear, we would both doze off. She rallied and became a beautiful cat. I promised her if she pulled through, I would spay her and keep her by my side.
After the show season of 2004-2005I had planned on her being my special pillow friend, but her grandmother Shobi and dad Jitto will sleep with me instead, a reminder of her. She was loved by many in spite of being the Princess. The next time your special baby doesn't make a final, just think of Lully and be happy you have your pal with you.
I'm grateful to all, and especially Susan. Lully will always have her name on the Tomodachi Award that she won at the Japanese Bobtail Fanciers? show July 4, 2004 for the Best Japanese Bobtail in Premiership (Alter) class. She was a regional winner, 8th Best Premiership in the Northwest, only being shown from May until November. She capped her career by receiving a Best Cat from Bob Bryan at the Regional show in October and in an uncharacteristic move, Bob went out of order and brought her out for her final before other cats. It was an exciting moment.
I'll always have wonderful memories of her. Ironically, her first show was Emerald Cat Club in Salem, Oregon 2003 and her last show was Emerald Cat Club, 2004.
Kiss your babies and love them.
