| Shoi Sugita was one patient who was near
Hiroshima Castle when the blast occurred.
The castle was near the epicenter of the
blast. He said he was blown about 20 meters
into the air and dropped back down hard on
the ground. Before he died, he said the castle
also flew up into the air. I thought he was
just making up stories because he was very
ill with a constant high temperature. But
the fall the year before last when I visited
Hiroshima Castle, I heard that it really
had flown into the air 25 meters. I was reminded
of the frightening power of the atomic bomb
in realizing that it had blown a five story,
1000m2 building high into the air. |
