PATRAS, Greece: Police arrested 25 illegal immigrants from Afghanistan
and Iraq after fighting broke out Thursday between the two groups over
clandestine transportation to Italy, authorities said.

More than 20 Iraqi Kurds clashed with 15 Afghanis who apparently
attempted to board a ship bound for Italy, authorities said. Police believe
Iraqi Kurds control smuggling routes to Italy from the western Greek port
of Patras, about 220 kilometres west of Athens.

Four Afghanis and four Kurds were injured during the clashes and were
taken to a hospital for treatment, police said.

The arrested immigrants, including those injured, are to be deported,
police said.
