An Opportunity We Can't Afford To Miss

By: Eamad Mazouri

Today, I read on your site, with great pleasure that French Prime Minister Mr.. Lionel
Jospin's Socialist Party is calling for a European-wide conference to help find a solution to
the Kurdish problem.

This is an opportunity we can't afford to miss. All the parties who claim to represent Kurdish
cause and people, all their friends and sympathizers should grab this unique opportunity to
further the Kurdish cause.

We and our friends should put all our efforts, energy, and resources in this avenue. It is time
for Kurdish people to realize were they can make a difference with least resources. If we
look back into our not so too far history, it is not very hard to find out that Kurdish people
have never been tired of making sacrifices only to no avail. It is an irony to know that the
only time we did make a difference was when our people running away for their lives after
Saddam Hussein attacked them with chemical weapons. Then and only by that action we
were able to bring our plight to the attention of the international community. And even
today the benefits we are reaping and enjoying especially in Iraqi-Kurdistan  are the
continuation of that tragedy.

Let's not forget that what's happening to the Kurdish people is nothing new and the world
was and is well aware off. Then what prompt this change in many European Leadership's
position towards the Kurdish problem is not our sufferings period. NO, the difference here is
our sufferings exposed at the their step-doors.

For years they have reading, hearing, and listening. However, that was a different case. Now
that they are seeing us in our misery alive that's what's shaking them. What our people
mostly need is to show the world and especially Europeans our peoples' agony, sufferings,
and misery.

The latest what became known as the Kurdish Titanic on the French Reverie is the most
illustrious example of our great tragedy. They have to realize why  Kurdish people who are
one of the most ancient people of the Middle-East who survived on their own land for several
thousands years despite political storms over that part of the world throughout they history,
choose now to leave their ancestor's land and come to Europe over  many obstacles. We have
to do everything in our power to get their sympathy. Peaceful means have always served
oppressed people better and we are no exception.
