More than 30 Kurds protesting against what they called human rights
abuses by Turkey entered the
United Nations Geneva headquarters on Tuesday but were persuaded to
leave after an hour.
The demonstrators carried signs slamming Turkey for the "assassination
of 41 political prisoners",
as well as torture and the disappearance of Kurdish prisoners in Turkish
jails, a Reuters reporter said.
One had a can of petrol. Kurdish protesters have in the past threatened to set themselves on fire.
Two years ago, Kurds staged a similar protest in Geneva, linked to the
sentencing of illegal
Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Ocalan. They left peacefully
after occupying
a U.N. meeting room for two days.
