Both walked back to Sesshomaru and Kurama. Odeda let down her spell that kept them frozen. Kurama looked at Sam then Odeda. He and Sesshomaru both collapsed. Sam and Odeda caught them and laid them down gently. They were both still in their demonic form.
�Sam, is there any hope of healing them?� Sam shook her head. Suddenly a gentle wind blew. Sam and Odeda knew this wind; it was that of the spirit which spoke to them before.
�Sam, Odeda, take up your protectors hands and let your power be theirs.� Just as the spirit came, so had it disappeared.
They were confused, but did as they were told. Sam took Kurama�s hand and Odeda took Sesshomaru�s hand, both closed their eyes and felt some of their energy flow into them. They let go after a few moments and awaited a miracle. Then both drew in a quick breath as both men opened their eyes.
�Sam?� Kurama sat up and touched her face. They both embraced one another. Sesshomaru just stared at Odeda. His expression was hard to read. Odeda could not tell whether he was happy or mad. She stood and left his side, without a word. She tapped Sam on the shoulder and pointed to Hiei�s dead body. Sam was forced to remember the tragic moment. Both hung their heads in sorrow.
In a small open area of the forest, Sam, Odeda, and Kurama buried Hiei. Kurama held Sam by the waist and looked down at their friend�s grave, tears running down their faces. Odeda said a quiet pray, then walked away. She had returned to her normal human state, but could still feel the power within her. She could summon it at anytime and use it to her own advantage. She stopped at the edge of a cliff and looked down to see villages all over. The people were safe. She had done her job.
�It is finally over.� She sighed. Her braids were all pulled back in a ponytail and a few were left to fall in her face. Somewhere she sensed an ever-familiar presence. She knew who it was, but did not look up.
�Let me guess. You are thinking again am I right?�
Above her sat Sesshomaru. He had been watching her. He watched the whole night all the way to the end. When he saw that she had done what she was called to do, he passed out, partially dead and short of breath.
�Odeda? You have done well.� He looked down at her, her back still turned. �I would like it very much if you stayed here� with me.� Odeda could not believe what she just heard. She turned and Sesshomaru was standing right in front of her. She looked up into his yellow eyes and he, down into her brown heavenly eyes.
�I thought you hated me because I was too weak.� Sesshomaru dipped his head down and lightly touched his lips against hers. She didn�t push away and she wasn�t confused, this felt right, it felt�safe, this was meant to be. Sesshomaru wrapped his arms around Odeda�s waist and pulled her closer to him. The two stayed locked in one another�s embrace as the sun rose, unaware of the other couple moving in on them. Sam made a low coughing sound that broke Odeda and Sesshomaru�s loving moment. Sam smiled and Odeda just looked away. Sam reached out and took Odeda by the hand. The two girls made their way back down the hill away from the ears of the men. Kurama and Sesshomaru avoided eye contact with each other. The two were in understanding that both liked one of the two women. They didn�t have to discuss it.
Sam and Odeda made sure that they were far from long ears. They both looked at each other, not knowing whether they should hug, cry, or just laugh. So much had happened in so little time, but both knew that they would be parting. Neither was going back to the world she came from.
�So this Kurama, you and him�are�� Odeda spoke first.
�Yeah, he wants me to go back with him. He has no one now.�
�I think he found someone. You and him look good together and I love you power, its awesome.� Sam looked Odeda with sad eyes.
�What?�
�Thank you�I am going to miss you so much Odeda.� She threw her arms around her.
�Hey, we can see each other whenever we want, you can make portals remember, who says that we can�t see each other after this� Sam smiled. She knew Odeda was just trying to avoid saying goodbye and crying.
�So you and Sess-chan eh?�
�Yeah, I guess he likes me. All this time though I thought he just hated my guts.�
�Well seems to me like he likes you. You guys look great together. Both of you have such strange personalities.�
�Yeah�HEY!� Sam laughed and they hugged again. This time when they broke apart, the both of them gasped, then pointed.
�Look at your face�� they both said.
�You have fox ears!� and �You have dog ears!� They both laughed then reached out to pet the other�s ears. They paused, then took their hands down and looked away.
�She looks like a goofball with fox ears.� Odeda thought to herself.
�Hey I heard that!�
�So.�
�What do you mean so? Take it back!�
�Okay, okay I am�hey look at that tree over there!� Odeda took off running and Sam took off running after her. The two chased each another all over the place while the fox and dog looked on. In the distance they heard exchanges of threats that had to do with biting, whales, and trees. Sesshomaru and Kurama�s faces showed confusion and their eyes twitched.
�You think we made the right decision?� Kurama asked, with a terrified look on his face.
