Chapter 19

Sam kept rocking back and forth in the cage.  The smell of rotting flesh making feel as though her insides would cave in at any moment, and she would shrivel up and die.  She wanted Kurama to be next to her and she wanted to see Odeda.  Suddenly a bright light shown in the dungeon and a large smile crossed her face when she saw that Kurama and Hiei had made it.  Kurama looked puzzled to see Sam in the cage.
Kurama!
Why didnt you use your powers? Sam blushed as she suddenly felt like a dimwit.  She closed her eyes and focused.  It was hard because she could not take her mind off the smell of rotting flesh, which consumed her nostrils.  Soon though she could feel the rush as her eyes turned into a dark purple.  She reached into a portal and from within pulled out a sword.  With the blade pointed up toward the ceiling of the cage, Sam muttered a few words, the swung the aword back and forth as though she were showing it off.  The bars in front of the cage all dropped suddenly and Sam crawled out.  She noticed that Kurama was carrying Hiei by the shoulder.
What happened?
While you were out for the moment, that demon that took you was able to spit some kind of fluid at him and before I knew it, he was falling back in the portal.
Let me see him.  Kurama placed Hiei on the ground and Sam knelt down next to him.  She looked him over; his skin was beginning to turn pale.  She opened one of his eyelids, then closed it.
He is paralyzed.
Can you help him?
I dont know, I can heal myself, but I am not sure that I can heal others. Kurama looked at Sam with sympathetic eyes and proceeded to focus her energy around the three of them.  She could sense that Hieis energy was slipping away.  Sam pushed harder than ever and focused all her energy on Hiei.  After a few moments, Hiei began to move again, he sat up and had his sword in his hand.
Where is it, the flying piece of crap Ill kill it. Sam and Kurama stared at Hiei for a moment.
Well we know what was on his mind while he was frozen. Hiei looked at Sam and then at Kurama who at the moment looked bewildered.  They all froze as they could hear what sounded like a bomb hitting the top of the ceiling.  They all looked to the stairs but saw nothing coming.  They could hear shuffling above them and Kurama signaled for them to all move out.  Hiei followed after Sam and Sam after Kurama.  The three made their way up the twisted steps and into a hallway.  It was dark and eerie; Sam shivered and felt a sudden sickness hit her as though she was experiencing the pain of another.  They heard growling, scrapping and chains.  Sam froze and Hiei crashed into her.
What is it now? Hiei hissed.  Kurama turned and put his index finger up to his lips.
Shes here. She stared blankly into space. Kurama turned and faced her.
Odeda?
Yeah, she is in trouble too, I can feel her near. Kurama turned back and looked down the hall where they heard sounds.  He figured that Odeda must be in one of the rooms down the hall.  Hiei caught on and looked at Sam.
Can you communicate with her using your mind?
I can try. Sam focused and she searched the space around her to find what wave Odeda was on.  She could only sense that she was in pain and needed help.  When she opened her eyes again, Kurama and Hiei could see nothing but disappointment on her face.  Kurama nodded his head, they would have to rescue Odeda first, and then go after the jewel.
