Unconditional Love

Kim brushed back her long blonde hair. Her big green eyes rested on the tv set across the room. It was still early. Only 6 AM. Both Hailie and Marshall were sleeping, she had woken up a half hour ago, but couldnt fall back asleep. So instead of laying in bed and being lazy like every other day, she decided to change her routine and she got up and took a shower, changed into clothes and was watching the morning news on channel 7 as she brushed out her hair.

She was getting bored with the problems of the world, and she was about to turn off the tv and get something to eat, but she heard something interesting.

'And today, Rapper Eminem has knocked Jay-Z's album off the top spot. Selling more than 6 million copies of his sophomore album, 'THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP', Eminem is certainly getting big.

She grinned proudly as they showed his picture, complete with pins stuck in his head, and watched them talking about him. After about a minute of analyzing the record, they got to the song 'KIM'. Kim sighed. She hated hearing that song, ever since the first time he played it for her in the car. She remembered the day clearly.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Here Kim, listen to this track now." Marshall said excitedly. He took a CD from the glove box and handed it to her. They were driving down the road on the way back from dropping Hailie off at Marshall's aunt Betty's house, and they were going back home to get ready for a party tonight. "I want to know what you think about it."
"Okay..." She said, taking the CD out and putting it in the stereo. She pressed play nd the sound of Marshall talking to Hailie came out of the booming speakers. After a second when he had started yelling at Kim in the background, she looked over at him like he was crazy. "Marshall..."
"No, no just listen. I wrote this song for you." He glanced from the road, to her and then back.
"Alright." She sighed and turned her gaze out the window as the song started.
4 minutes later, Marshall laughed and turned the music off, and Kim looked at him, a look of both hurt, anger, and fear in her eyes.
"Oh that song was so very sweet Marshall. Ill bet every wife wishes their husband would write something like that about them." Kim said sarcastically.
"Haha! Well, what do you think?" He asked expectantly.
"Um, to be honest, Im thinking a lot of things right now, but I don't want to say a lot of them." She rolled her eyes and kept back tears. How could he write something so horrible and terrifying about her? How the fuck could he think those things? It gave her the chills.
"C'mon, say what you want. Brutal honesty Kim, cmon!" He prompted her.
"Your fucking crazy. Your just insane. Seriously Marshall, your missing something up there, god help us all." She shook her head. She wasn't going to let him know how much that song hurt her.
He just laughed and it made her sick. She couldn't wait for them to get back home so she could get out of the car with him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Kim stared blankly at the tv. Pain being brought back, along with the thoughts and feelings she felt the first time she heard it.

She didn't know how he could write something like that about her. Sure, they had their share of problems and they fought a lot, but he wasn't completely innocent in the fights either. And from what people heard on the news and the things that his fans knew from listening to his record, was only half the story. What about all the times that he had hurt her?

He conveniently forgot to tell fans that. And now the world hated her, all because of Marshall. Fans hated her, people that heard Marshall's sob story hated her, just about 99 percent of the world hated her.

Sometimes it bothered her, no matter how much she tried to pretend that it didn't. Of course it bothered her sometimes. She wasn't just, Kim, she was human too. Sometimes she wondered, was it even worth being married to him?

"Kim? What time is it?" She whipped around and saw Marshall walking down the stairs behind her.

He was wearing baggy grey Nautica Sweat pants, no shirt, and only 1 sock. His hair was ruffled and sticking up, and he was rubbing the sleep from his eyes with the back of his left hand. She smiled.

"Almost 7, what are you doing up?" She asked.

"Im talking to you." He replied, sinking down onto the couch next to her and laying back with his head in her lap, one foot over the arm of the couch.

She shook her head and looked back at the tv, they were talking about Bosnia having bombs or something. They had stopped talking about Marshall. She looked back down at Marshall, who was yawning and she smoothed his hair down so it wouldn't stick up.

"Congratulations." She said, smiling at him.

"For what?" He asked sleepily, pushing her hands away and ruffling his hair, messing it up again.

"Your album beat, um, Jay Z I think. For the top chart spot." She said matter of factly.

"Oh yeah. Thanks." He said, closing his eyes, catching her hand when it touched his hair again, and holding onto it.

"You don't seem, excited about it..." She trailed off and intertwined their fingers.

"Yeah, I was excited." He sighed and got comfortable on the couch again. "Yesterday." He added.

"Oh, well congratulations anyways." She shrugged.

"Thanks Kim." He smiled. He worked so hard trying to support her and impress her and everything, and so when she said congratulations to him, it made him so happy. "So why you up so early?"

"Couldn't sleep." She said, looking down at his face. His eyes were closed and his lips slightly parted. She smiled tenderly.

"Oh." He murmured, tired.

"Its Saturday, you don't have to go anywhere, why don't you go back to bed?" She suggested.

"Trying to get rid of me?" He smirked and pinched her thigh.

"Ow." She slapped him upside the head. "Don't do that, it hurts."

He just chuckled and sighed contentedly. "Sorry."

"Its alright." She rolled her eyes and he squeezed her hand tighter. The small meaningless gestures that meant nothing, but both valued more than anything else.

They sat in a comfortable silence, the only noise coming from the tv, until finally-

"Bosnia sucks." Marshall said decidedly.

"Marshall..." Kim sighed and shook her head. "You think that everything sucks."

"Its 'coz everything does suck. Fuck the world." He said loudly.

"Shut up before Hailie wakes up, and stop quoting yourself." She said boredly.

"Oh, haha! That was funny Kim!" He said sarcastically.

"Thanks, I wasn'tt even trying to be funny. Must come naturally." She grinned.

"Fuck off Kim." He muttered, his voice turning serious. He wasn't in the mood to play these stupid games with her.

"Sorry, Marshall." She said, her face falling. She thought they were alright, sitting on the couch, watching tv together, having a nice time. But he was always so mean to her and stuff, she sighed and pulled her hand from his, running her hands through her wet hair, shaking some water drops on him accidentally.

"Don't fucking do that." He spat, wiping the water droplets from his forehead.

"Im sorry, it was an accident, what the fuck is your problem?" She asked defensively.

"Shut up." He sighed, grabbing her hand again and bringing her palm down to his lips, kissing her hand softly. She smiled. "I love you Kim." He said a second later, looking up at her, and grinning.

"Mood swings much?" She raised an eyebrow and he made a face, almost like a mock smile face, and looked back at the tv. "I love you too Marshall."

"That's why I married you baby." He smirked. She rolled her eyes and leaned back against the pillows of the couch, one of his hands was holding tightly to hers, her other hand was raking through his hair.

The hand holding her own made her smile. She could feel the texture of his skin against hers, and the way he held her, it was as if he needed her. It felt good to feel needed, especially by Marshall. She loved him so much, it was just sometimes, he really pissed her off, and she could be a real bitch at times.

It was just a bad combination, he had no patience and she liked to push it and see how mad he could get before she had to run. It was like that all the time, she admitted to it, sometimes she would try and piss him off, just for the fun of it. But he also pissed her of purposely too.

But at the end of the day, it was a question of how much they loved each other, if they would stay together or not. Someday, a time would come when, maybe they would fall out of love, but they would still love each other. It was confusing, but no one ever said love was easy.

"Marshall?" Kim asked, pushing his head off her lap and standing up, without warning.

"What?" Marshall scowled and rubbed the back of his head, looking up at her as she stood over him.

"Do you want me to get you something to eat, and some coffee?" She asked, yawning.

"Sure." He yawned too, yawns were contagious.

"Okay what do you want?" She said, turning towards the kitchen.

"Toast..." He mumbled tiredly.

"What?" She asked.

"TOAST!" He yelled, losing his patience.

"FINE!" She yelled back, shaking her head and walking into the kitchen to get him toast and coffee.

She loved doing things for him, believe it or not. She would always get him something to eat or drink, and bring it in to him, and then sit with him while he eats and watches tv. She loved being a wife and a mother to Hailie.

She was a good mother, even though so many people said she wasn't, there wasn't anything more important to her then Hailie. Hailie Jade Scott, her beautiful baby girl. How could she not love her? Hailie was so precious, only five years old and she was so smart.

She loved taking care of Marshall and Hailie, playing the role of both wife and mother, and she didn't mind it. It was when Marshall was an asshole, that she complained about being married to him. But it wasn't so bad after all was it?

He was gone a lot, but he provided the house, the food, the clothes, he took good care of her and Hailie, and when he was home, he was the best husband and father anyone could ask for. Of course there were his bad days, which seemed to be coming more frequently, but she even loved his bad days, because without those, he wouldn't be Marshall.

She poured the coffee as the toast cooked, and when it popped she took out a plate and put some butter on it for him. She picked up the plate of toast, and the two coffee mugs, juggling them all expertly. It was all those years waitressing in restaurants, right there.

She walked into the living room and set the plate down on the coffee table, turning around and handing the mug to Marshall, who was laying down on his stomach, his face buried in the couch cushion, his eyes closed, his mouth half open.

"Marshall. Here." She said, nudging his hand with her wrist. He didn't take the cup.

She studied his face. Asleep. She shook her head and smiled, setting down his coffee mug on the table, and sitting down on the floor cross-legged, sipping her coffee slowly. it figures he would fall asleep before she got back with his coffee, that was supposed to keep him awake.

"Mommy?" Kim looked around to see Hailie coming down the stairs in her pink feety pajamas. She rubbed her eyes and blinked at Kim, standing at the bottom of the stairs.

"Yeah baby?" Kim asked, raising an eyebrow. Now they both woke up. She could bet it was the shower, making too much noise. She told Marshall to get someone to fix the shower head, or do it himself. He had tried to do it himself, and loosened something. So now the shower head was fixed, but the pipes rattled every 2 seconds, it was really annoying.

Hailie didn't have anything to say to her really, she just wanted to come downstairs and watch tv with her mom and dad, so that's exactly what she did. She padded slowly into the living room, glancing at Marshall asleep on the couch and then standing in front of Kim.

"I wanna watch tv with you and daddy." Hailie stated.

"Okay, but shh. Daddy's sleeping." Kim smiled and held her arms out. Hailie crawled into her lap, leaning back against her chest, Kim's arms around her, holding her firmly. Her chin rested on Hailie's shoulder and she smiled.

It was definatly worth being married to Marshall if she got to have moments like this.
