Plunging a foot into the snow, Lily-Rose Depp followed her father up the hill. The snow was fresh, cold, and at least a foot deep. The hill was big, perfect for sledding, because at the bottom it came out to a large feild, and beyond that, woods.
"Just a little bit further," Johnny Depp assured her. He was a few steps ahead of her, carrying the large ble plastic sled. "Walk in my footprints, if you want." He instructed her.
Deciding this was a good idea, the small child took a large step and put her foot into one of his footprints, her small boot barely taking up a little more than half of the print. She looked back up at him, and took a giant step to his next footprint. Finding they were too far apart for her little legs, she gave up and went back to making her own footsteps.
Johnny looked back, grinning at his daughter as she took a large step to his footprint. She had a pink, knit hat with a pompom on the top, a puffy white winter coat, a long pink scarf that she had gotten last week for Christmas, pink knit mittens (they matched the hat), white snowpants and pink rubber boots. She was struggling to get up the hill, obviously getting tired, and he turned and looked at the top of the hill.
"Almost there, baby," He said, getting to the top himself. He waited patiently for her to get to the top, setting the sled down as he waited.
"Daddy, Im cold." She said softly, reaching the top, and standing beside him, looking down the large hill. Her eyes widened.
"Of course, thats part of sledding, sweetheart." He said, bending over and positioning the sled so it would go straight down the hill- hopefully.
Lily smiled weakly and looked up at her father. "So, this is a big hill." She watched him nod.
He grinned, looking out over the snow covered feild. His daughters first sledding experience. He had been waiting so long to take her sledding. Vanessa had begged him, to please be careful with her baby, and it took a lot of convincing to get where they were.
"This is going to be so much fun," He said, turning and squatting in front of her, making sure her jacket was tightly zipped, and that her hat was on well enough. He straightened up and nodded towards the sled. "Ready?"
"No..." She looked down. Fun? She thought. Fun was speeding down this hill on a peice of plastic. She should have listened to her mother. Maybe she was to young for sledding.
"Alright," Johnny said, sitting on the sled and watching her. "We can stay here, and wait til your ready? Or you can watch me go down, or I can go with you when you go down?"
"Im scared." She said quietly. "What if we tip over?"
"Thats the best part! We get all snowy! You think your cold now..." He chuckled.
"We'll turn into a frostsicle!" She grinned, her fear subsiding slightly. "You will come with me?"
"If you want me too." He nodded. "Sure."
"Will we get hurt if we tip over?" She said nervously, glancing at the big hill in front of her.
"Only if we get frostbite." He saw the look on her face at his joke and said quickly, "Just kidding."
"Okay..." She took a deep breath, exhaling slowly, looked at her father and nodded. "Im ready."
Johnny positioned himself on the sled, at the back, outstretching his legs on either side of the sled, and motioned for Lily to climb on. She carefully sat down in front of him, inbetween his legs, and he wrapped his arms around her. Once she was in the sled, he put his feet into the snow, and asked, "Ready?" She nodded her answer and he used his feet to send them off.
It went slowly at first, Lily grinned, thinking that it wasnt so bad, and Johnny hugged her close as he felt the sled turn slightly. About three quarters of the way down the hill, they must have hit an icy spot, because the sled spun, and they leaned the wrong way.
The sled tipped over, spilling Johnny and Lilly out into the snow, sending them rolling a few feet, before they stopped.
Lily ended up on her stomach, flat in the snow, and she lifted up her head to watch the blue sled slide slowly down the rest of the hill and coast when it got to the bottom. She glanced at her father, who was sitting, watching her. He was covered in snow, as was she, and she was missing a mitten. Her hat was just barely hanging on.
Johnny was relieved when she smiled at him. She was okay, and she had enjoyed it, despite the accident of falling off the sled. It figures that happens on her first time going down the hill. She got to her feet, and he stood up too, brushing himself off. He was just wearing jeans, so the back of his pants were soaked, from being rolled in the snow. He hardly noticed.
"We're frostsicles now," Lily grinned at him.
"Frostsicles," He agreed, nodding. "So..." He walked over to where her mitten had fallen off, and handed it to her. "Wanna do it again?"
