/Chapter 5/
Murry hopped off the curb and crossed the street, to distracted to watch where she was walking. Luckily this street wasnt as busy as others were, so there was no car coming when she stepped off the curb, and she made it to the other side safely. She looked up at the huge apartment building in front of her. Kennys apartment building.
She walked right up to the heavey glass door, and stood in front of it, looking up at the doorbell buttons. Selecting the 6th one, she pressed it, twice. And stood back, looking around as she waited for him to come over the intercom asking who it was. He was probably expecting Denise. Denise was still at DeShauns, being talked into going over there by Kim, who for some reason felt the need for Denise to tag along everywhere. Murry was looking at the ground when the buzzer went off, signalling that it was okay for her to open the door and come into the building.
Surprised, she grabbed the door handle and pulled it open, as it buzzed, and stepped inside, letting the door close behind her by itself, and started up the stairs. The stairway was airconditioned, a nice change from the hot outside air. She breifly wondered why Kenny didnt come over the intercom and ask who was there. He ALWAYS did that, even if he was expecting her. She quickly went up the stairs, and rounded the first railing. He was on the 4th floor, the top floor. She rounded the second landing, and kept going, looking up, expecting him to be looking over the banister for whoever it was that had rung his bell.
"Kenny?" She called, rounding the 3rd floor landing and taking the last set of stairs to the top.
"Murry?" He called back, and she grinned at him, leaning in his doorway, stairing at her. "My intercom doesnt work. I have to get the superintendent to look at it..."
"Oh," She nodded. So thats why. "Whats up?" She asked, walking down the hall to his doorway.
"Not much," He shrugged and turned around, walking into the apartment, leaving the door open for her to follow. She stepped inside and closed the door behind her, following him into the livingroom.
"I went to DeShauns last night, Denise was there." She said, pushing a pile of clothes to the other side of the uncomfortable sofa, and sitting down on the cleared spot. Kennys house was a mess. He had barely any furniture, a sofa, an armchair that looked like it had gotted hit by a mac truck, a table in the corner with a light on it, with no lampshade. The floor was covered in clothes, mostly dirty, although it was relaly hard to tell. cups and dishes were everywhere, soda bottles, papers all over the floor, a couple lighters and ashtrays on the tables and floor, and a few dirty magazines.
She picked one up and started flipping through it, boredly turning page after page of naked women.
"Really?" He asked from the kitchen, he seemed like he was busy doing something and didnt really care.
"Yeah, and Joey was being a dick to me, like the whole night, but we are okay, we talked this morning." She said, stopping to look more closely at a page, before raising an eyebrow and flipping to the next page.
"Oh, okay," He didnt sound like he wanted to hear, or was even listening at all.
"Yeah, there was an orgy, and yeah, Denise says she wants me instead of you, so looks like shes a lesbian and your single buddy, sorry." She said, listening for his response.
"Sounds good," Kenny mumbled, looking down at the papers in front of him. He was trying to figure out this bill shit. Apparently he didnt pay his phone bill, and the electricity company was up his ass too. He didnt have time to listen to Murry. He crossed out a couple numbers and swore under his breath. "Shit," He whispered, realizeing that when he THOUGHT he had paid the bill for last month, he had sent it to his creditcard company instead. Fuck, he was fucked....
"Why arent you listening to me?" Kenny looked up to see Murry standing in the doorway, holding a porn magazine in one hand, the other hand scratching the back of her neck.
"I was, why are you, why do you have my magazine?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I read the articles," She said flatly, throwing the magazine onto the table in front of him, sending a few of his papers flying.
"MURRY, IM TRYING TO DO SOMETHING HERE!" He exclaimed.
"What?"
"Pay my bills." He shoved the magazine aside and rearranged a few of his papers, looking back down at them and chewing the top of his pen, thinking about how to get himself out of this mess. His parents wouldnt loan him anymore money, he already owed them more than he would ever make in a lifetime, and his job wasnt cutting it, at least not right now. They were cutting back on hours, and he was working like 4 days a week at the most, and that was barely enough to keep him in his apartment.
"We have bigger problems, Kenny." Murry said, sitting down beside him at the table.
"What the fuck is a bigger problem then the fact that Im going to lose my phone, and electricity, but If i pay for those then I get evicted and kicked out of my fucking house?" He narrowed his eyes at her, extremely annoyed.
"Rye." She said, offering no other explanation except the name.
"What the FUCK," He threw his pen down on the table, "did you do?"
"I didnt do ANYTHING, I fuckin swear..." She held her hands up and tried to explain. "I was smoking with Marsh-"
"Okay, hold on. You were smoking. Lets start there. Where did you get the money to buy the weed, and who did you buy it from?" He asked carefully.
"Okay, that deal with Rye, I had some left over that I didnt sell yet. So... I smoked it. With Marshall, and Rye was at the-" She said quickly, trying to get a word in.
"No no, wait. Lets rewind here." Kenny laughed and shook his head. "You smoked weed that you needed to sell, so that you could pay back Rye..."
"Yeah... well no, see I have enough to pay him-"
"Murry, fuck," He sighed and pursed his lips together, watching her.
"Would you let me EXPLAIN what the fuck happened?" She almost yelled, so annoyed that he kept interrupting her.
"Okay, explain." He shook his head. "Ill shut up."
"Okay, thank you," She rolled her eyes. "So we were at the park and like, Rye and his cuntbubbles came past, and they stopped and Rye wanted his money, and I dont have it yet, so I told him. I told him we had a deal thursday night and that he could have his 50 by friday, and he didnt want it then, he wanted it now, so he started freaking out, and fuckin', Markus pulls out his fuckin' knife, and Marshall came running over, and-"
"Wait, does Marshall know about the deal?"
"Uh," She shrugged. "Yeah, he heard me talking to Rye, I think..."
"MURRY WHAT THE FUCK!? DO YOU WANT TO GET CAUGHT?" Kenny stood up and pushed his chair back, and it fell over. "Your so STUPID sometimes, GOD."
"Kenny, Fuck you, listen to me." She yelled, standing up also. "Marshall wont tell anyways, he wouldnt do that to me. Its not him."
"Yeah, but if he tells someone who would tell, like Joey?" Kenny exhaled loudly. "Christ,. this is fucking stupid."
"ANYWAYS," Murry glared at him. "So Markus pulled out his knife and he was like threatening us with it, so I told him to fuck off and stuff, and he said that he was going to get me and you, if we didnt give him his money soon."
"Murry, I really wish you werent a girl so I could fucking slap you." He growled, making fists at his sides. "How could you have been so stupid? God, I dont know, even what to say to you. Your not doing this right... Your really fuckin' not."
"Kenny, I know what Im doing! I have the deal thursday, WE HAVE THE DEAL THURSDAY!" She stepped over to him, "C'mon, think about it. We can pay him back Friday and buy more with the money we are gonna get. We wont have to use credit, we can pay upfront."
"You know, there is no credit in the drug dealing business, Murry," He said coldly. "And paying upfront is all that you CAN do, we were lucky that Rye decided to trust us, but we took to long paying him back... Well, if you had listened to me in the first place we would have paid him back right away, instead of paying me first and then waiting on that deal. If i lost 50 dollars, Id be pissed, but I wouldnt pull a fuckin' knife on you. Dont you get it? And he would! He would do more than pull just a knife on you, jesus Murry, your fucking us over as we speak."
"Kenny-" She started.
"No, fuck, NO. Listen, from no on, no more smoking the weed that we need to sell. When we get paid we smoke, but thats IT. Dont fucking do anything else with it but sell it until we fuckin' have our money. Okay? This is a big deal, you dont want to fuck it up." He explained, half scolding her.
"Whatever," She shook her head and crossed her arms. He gritted his teeth. She could be so stubborn sometimes.
"Murry, Im not kidding," He warned.
"No, you never let me do things the way I want!" She yelled.
"BECAUSE LOOK WHAT HAPPENS! YOU GOT A KNIFE PULLED ON YOU LAST NIGHT, ALMOST KILLED YOURSELF AND MARSHALL AND YOUR SLOWLY FUCKING UP THIS DEAL. LOOK WHAT THE FUCK YOUR DOING!" He yelled. "I DO NOT WANT TO BE DRAGGED DOWN WITH YOU, SO YES I NEVER LET YOU DO THINGS THE WAY YOU WANT, WE DO THEM THE RIGHT WAY, AT LEAST WHEN IM THERE!"
"SHUT UP!" She yelled back, she wanted to punch him. "Ill fucking kick your ass Kenny-"
"Murry, shut up. You wanna do things your way?"
"Yes." She said, narrowing her eyes at him.
"Then do it your way. But I want no part of it. Dont call me when things backfire. When you get a knife pulled on you, I dont wanna be there. So from now on, your on your own. Do it your way, but dont include ME." He said, pointing a finger at her as he spoke.
"Fine." She spat, turning around and walking towards the doorway. "I will do it my way, and this deal, Im gonna make so much and your gonna wish that you fuckin' stuck with me Kenny, your gonna regret this." She grabbed the front door and pulled it open, slamming it behind herself.
Kenny shook his head and picked the chair up off the ground, turning it upwards and sitting down in front of his stack of papers. He had a sneaky feeling he wasnt going to be the one that was going to regret this.
-----------------------
Marshall opened his eyes, and looked down at Kim beside him. She was laying inbetween him and the couch, pressed into the back of the couch because he was leaning on her. He shifted his weight, but was still laying very close to her, arm around her, and smiled. She was so cute when she slept. Her eyes closed lightly, and her eyelids were moving slightly, didnt that mean she was dreaming? Her chest rose and fell slowly and evenly, and she looked so peaceful. He loved her the most when she was sleeping, he decided.
He loved waking up next to her, feeling her curled up in his arms. There had been so many nights, so many sleepovers at everyones houses, since they had been dating, and every morning, he woke up to her, curled inbetween him and the floor, him and the couch, or him and nothing. She automatically pressed herself against him, they didnt even have to be in a small space. He loved it. He loved the feeling of holding her, feeling that protective vibe he got. And she was so beautiful.
Her hair was curly and messy, her mouth slightly parted. One time he had caught her drooling, and laughed so hard it woken her up. She denies it to this day, but he smiled at the fond memory.
"Shit!" He yelled, as he felt someone blowing into his ear. His thoughts stopped and his hand flew behind him and hit whoever it was that had blown in his ear and he nearly rolled off the couch onto DeShaun, as he scrambled away, laughing.
Kim sat up with a start, awoken from her sleep by her boyfriend screaming swears into her ear and pulling away from her. He grabbed the arm of the couch and pulled himself back onto the couch, his weight shifting onto Kim, who pushed against his chest. "Marshall, ow, get off," She said, annoyed.
Marshall got off her, and sat up, turning around to see his friends laughing at him. Joey was sitting in the armchair eating cereal, laughing at them and Denaun was on the couch, DeShaun next to the couch, practically sitting ontop of Matts legs, as he sat on the floor. Denise just shook her head and smiled. "You fucking, dickhead." Marshall sighed, and ran a hand over his head. "I was comfortable."
"You was sleeping to fucking late." Deshaun corrected him. "Time to wake your asses up. Oh Kim, I love the way you did your hair!" He said, snickering.
Kim glared at him and touched her hair gently. Marshall raised an eyebrow and smiled. He really did like Kims hair like that. It was kind of... cute.
"Listen," DeShaun said, sitting forward, moving away from Matts leg. "You guys need to get the fuck out." He said, matter of factly.
"What?" Marshall laughed. He was so straight forward about these things.
"You heard me. You need to get the fuck out, I dont know what time my sisters coming home soon and it could be like any minute, so I want all of ya'll out of here, I wasnt supposed to have anyone over last night, remember guys?" He said, standing up. A few of the others, Denaun, Joey and Denise stood up, getting their stuff together. Marshall, Kim, and Matt just sat there looking around, and DeShaun kicked Matts leg. "Guys, Im not fucking kidding me. Im not getting my ass kicked tonight because you guys have no where else to be right now. Get ready to GO."
"Theres no need to be rude about it," Kim rolled her eyes and stood up, walking over to the window and looking out, breifly, at nothing in particular, as Marshall stood up and looked around.
"'Ay man," He said, looking at Matt, as he picked up his shirt, and then at Kim as Kim picked up her ciggarettes, lighter and housekeys. "I really didnt bring anything with me, did I?" Marshall looked up at DeShaun.
"No, do you ever? And Kim?" DeShaun said, snatching a blanket off the couch and folding it, and tossing it onto the back of the couch. "There is need to be rude because all you fucks, dont listen."
"Listen, DeShaun, you know what?" Kim stepped up in front of DeShaun and Deshaun raised his eyebrows. He loved Marshall, but Kim could REALLY push his LAST nerve.
"Ah!" Marshall yelled loudly, putting his arms around Kim and pulling her towards the kitchen. "Kim, Ill walk you home, guys Ill see you later."
"My house, Marshall!" Denaun called, and Marshall nodded, pulling Kim out the back door before she could say anything to DeShaun. He hated it when they fought. Tonight they were all going to Denauns house, to chill in his garage, and Denaun had promised there be alcohol. He wouldnt miss it!
Kim shook her head as Marshall let go of her, finally reaching the street, and pulled a ciggarette out, propping it up inbetween her lips, and sheilding the wind from it with one hand, lit the ciggarette with the lighter in the other. Taking a breath of it while she lit it, the end of it ignited, a dark orangish color. Putting the lighter and ciggarette box in her pocket, she reached up to put the ciggarette inbetween her index and middle finger carefully, exhaling and looking over at Marshall.
"Whats tonight?" She asked, taking another drag of the ciggarette, slowly.
"Oh, I guess we are going to Denauns and drinking, you wanna come with?" He asked, walking half on the curb, half in the street, before just walking completely in the street as they passed a trashbarrel.
"Yeah, Ill go. Are you guys gonna be smoking?" She asked, watching him as cars flew past him. "Get up here, your making me nervous." She held out the hand on his side, and he stepped onto the curb, taking her hand and intertwining their fingers.
"Uh, smoking? Maybe if Murrys there? I dont know. I dont have any right now, I dont know if any of the guys do, and I KNOW Murry does, so ask her. If shes even going. I didnt see her this morning, did you?" Marshall asked, watching some kids run by him, and pushing himself into Kim more, away from the chase.
"No, she was gone when we woke up. Maybe she had another fight with Joey." Kim shrugged. "I dont know. Im going to Kennys later this afternoon, She will probably be there. Ill talk to her then."
"Aight," Marshall scratched his leg, letting go of Kims hand breifly to do so. "Sorry," he apologized afterwards. She shook her head, dissmissing the apology and smiled.
