Epilogue
"Marshall, wake up." Marshall opened his eyes and stared up at Lataya. She was standing in front of the couch, looking down at him and smiling. He just laid there for a second and then he remembered. They had a fight, he had hit her. He could see the bruise starting to form on the side of her face and he immediatly sat up.
"Baby, Im sorry, Im really sorry. I didnt know I was hitting you until after I already-" He said quickly. She shook her head and knelt down on the floor beside the couch.
"Dont worry about it Marshall. I know, that you didnt mean to. I shouldnt have hit you in the first place. Dont feel bad okay?" She said quietly.
"Kay..." He said slowly.
"I love you. Ill always love you." She said, smiling at him, that smile that he loved. He smiled back and moved to give her a hug. She hugged him back, and he shivered as they touched. She was so cold, so was the room.
"Why are you cold?" He asked.
"Its chilly outside." She replied.
"Yeah, it is October..." Marshall sighed.
"Marshall, Im not cheating on you, I never have, and I would never even consider it. I love you too much to do that." Lataya said, changing the subject. He sighed and hugged her tightly.
"I know, Im so sorry I accused you. I dont wanna talk about it right now, lets just relax for a minute." He said, nuzzling his head into her neck.
She looked down and closed her eyes briefly. "No, Marshall. A minute is all I have." She said. She pulled away from him and looked him in the eye.
He stared at her. There was something different about her. Her usually tanned skin was pale, her eyes were dark. "A minute is all you have?" He questioned, wondering what she meant.
She pursed her lips together and nodded. "I dont have long. I have to go soon."
"Where are you going?" He asked, frowning.
"Back..." She trailed off.
"Back? Back where?" He asked.
"Marshall, um, after I left you earlier, I sort of um, got in a car accident, and, Im dead." She said slowly, not knowing how he would react.
"What?" He asked carefully, inching away from her on the couch, getting alittle alarmed the she said she was dead, yet she was sitting right in front of him, talking to him, hugging him.
"Im dead Marshall. I lost control of the car down on 7 mile road... You hear those sirends in the distance?" She asked. Thye listened for a second, Marshall could hear the sirens, the sirens that seemed to punch him in the stomach and make him wanna puke. He shook his head, in denial.
"No you not, your here, you cant be dead." He argued.
"Im a spirit now. And I only have a short amount of time to tell you what I want you to know. So listen alright?" She asked.
"Lataya-" He shook his head. "You arent dead. Stop saying that." He argued.
"Listen to me ok?" She asked again.
"No." He argued, thinking that this was crazy. And if she was telling the truth like she seemed to be, if he took longer talking to her, she could stay here longer with him. She shook her head.
"Alright. You dont have to listen, but Im gonna talk anyways, ok?" She asked. She didnt wait for him to answer before she started talking. "Marshall, I know you think that there was something going on with Royce, but there isnt. The only one I want is you, and thats how it is always gonna be, and always has been. I love you, so much. You really hurt me when you called me a whore, and when you hit me, and the fact that you accused me of cheating on you also hurt. But I just wanna say that, as much as it hurt me, I forgive you. Because I know that I mean more than a whore to you. And I shouldnt have hit you. Basically what Im trying to say is that, Ill remember today like Ill remember all our days together, but I will forget the pain. Because I know niether of us wanted the other to feel badly. But just remember, I love you Marshall. I always have."
She leaned over to hug him, and he leaned away from her more, watching her figure start to fade away. She was really a spirit, coming to him and saying the stuff that made him just want to cry. She was starting to become more transparent, a glossy cover on her. Her time was running out.
He got scared, and leaned back away from her out of fear, not wanting her to touch him. She could sense he was scared and she leaned back, giving up trying to hug him. "Dont be afraid Marshall. I wont hurt you, ever again." She said, biting her bottom lip.
He swallowed hard and nodded, leaning forward slowly, and hugging her. He found courage in her words. And this was the last time that he was ever going to see her again, ever going to hug her again. "I love you Lataya." He whispered.
"I love you too Marshall." She said, licking her lips. She let him go and stood up, ignoring the look of hurt in his eyes. She hated seeing him look like that. She was almost completely faded away, but he could still see her somewhat. She looked around the apartment that served as her home for the past few months. The best few months of her life, and the last. And they were spent with Marshall. She looked back down at Marshall who looked absolutely horrified, and smiled at him, being brave.
"Hey Marshall?" She asked, grinning at him, giving him some of her courage, because he was going to need it. He raised both eyebrows. "Your lover, your friend," She said slowly.
"I got your back, to the end." They both finished at the same time. He smiled. She remembered that, after all these years. She smiled back at him one last time, before she faded away completely, leaving just a cold room behind. Marshall shivered and felt a tear fall from his eyes.
"Shit!" Marshall bolted upright on the couch and took a deep breath. He felt a tear rolling down his cheek and he hastily wiped it away. What was he crying over? He cleared his throat and heard Craig David singing in the speakers. He looked around the room. He remembered his dream.
He felt cold, and for a second there he started feeling uneasy. What if, it wasnt a dream? He did hear sirens in the distance, and Lataya had left. He looked around. The shades on the window were shut, but he could see through the sides of it that it was dark outside. They had a fight early this morning, and it was now late tonight. He had slept the whole day?
He got up and turned off the stereo. He felt really uneasy, nervous and anxious. He WAS dreaming right? He was going to find out. He jumped over the couch and grabbed the keys from the table, pulling the door open and running down the steps two at a time until he got to the bottom. He jumped off onto the gravel pavement and ran towards the cars in the parkinglot. He ran up to his car, and jammed the key in the lock, turning it and opening the door, until he noticed something.
Latayas car was next to his, parked, quiet, and in perfect condition as it had been this morning. He shut his door and leaned over, peeking down into the passenger side window of her car.
She was sitting in the drivers seat, the seat was relclined, and she was staring straight ahead out the windshield. She looked miserable from what he could see in the dark. He tapped on the glass of the window lightly, and she looked over at him, jumping a mile out of her seat in surprise.
She looked at him, and screamed, feeling startled. He smirked and shook his head, and she leaned across the seat, and opened the door for him. He grinned and got into the car beside her, sighing with relief, and closing the door again.
"Dont scare me like that." She said, leaning back in the reclined seat.
"Sorry. What are you doing here still? I thought you would have been long gone..." He trailed off.
"I forgot to get my keys. Im so stupid." She sighed and stared at the ceiling of the car.
"No your not. Im glad that you forgot your keys. I had a dream that you died." He said, shaking his head.
"Thanks." She smirked. "Thats nice to know."
"No, I mean, it was a bad dream. A nightmare. You got in a car accident and your spirit came to me and told me things..." He trailed off.
"Yeah. What did I tell you?" She asked boredly. She wasnt so mad at him as she had been earlier, and he didnt seem mad at her too much either.
"I dont know. Just some stuff. I dont really remember. But you did do the thing." He said, looking at her. She was laying back in the seat, picking at her finger nails.
"Huh? The thing?" She asked.
"You know, how we used to go, your lover, your friend I got your back-" He started.
"To the end." She finished. He grinned, feeling happy that she remembered.
"Yeah. You did that." He said.
"Marshall, look. Im not cheating on you. And, Im sorry that I slapped you, and-"
"No, stop, look. Even if you hit me, I shouldnt have hit you back. I was wrong to do that. And I was wrong to accuse you of cheating on me just because you danced with someone else. I feel really bad that I made you cry." He said, cutting her off. "Im sorry. Im so sorry Lataya. I know that you should hate me, you have every reason to hate you, and I just, I dont know. Can we please not break up?!" He asked, holding his breath.
She looked at him and frowned. "Break up? Marshall, we had a fight, that doesnt mean we broke up... And, I dont have any reason to hate you. I never will hate you, because I love you. I know your sorry, Im sorry too. And it wasnt all your fault that I cried. Kim had called just before..."
"Kim called? Whatd she say?" He asked, turning around in the seat to look at her. She shrugged.
"Just shit. She said that you didnt really love me, and fed me bullshit about you sleeping around, but I know its not true because I trust you." He felt like someone punched him in the stomach. He hadnt believed her, but she believed him. "She said that no one loved me, oh and she told me that the whole school knew about my dad, um, you know." She sighed and looked out the window, away from him.
"Lataya, shes lying. She doesnt know how I feel babe, she doesnt know. So dont listen to her. I love you so much, shes jealous because I dont love her. And Im sorry, for not believing you today. And as for the thing with your dad..." He sighed. "Yeah, people knew. Dom had told everyone."
"SHIT!" She whined. "Fuck Dom... Um, I guess, that means, you know about, how me and Dom went out?" She asked.
"Yeah. Its alright though. I dont really care. He doesnt know what he let get away from him. And now I have you." Marshall smiled at her. She grinned at him and shook her head.
"Um, So, are we ok now?" She asked.
"Yeah. I think we will be just fine." Marshall nodded. He laughed a second later and Lataya raised an eyebrow. He looked at her and shook his head. "Its just, Im really glad your not dead."
"Um, me too?" She cleared her throat and smiled, shaking her head. He laughed and leaned down, kissing her softly. She grinned against his lips and deeped the kiss by putting her arms around his neck and pulling him down. He licked her bottom lip slowly, as if asking for permission, and she opened her mouth slowly.
He leaned into her more, and slid a hand slowly up her shirt, over her smooth flat stomach, and massaged her breasts. She giggled and cupped his cheeks, pulling him down closer to her. He sat up a second later, removing his hand from her shirt and taking a deep breath.
"Lets go inside." He said.
"Why?" She asked, grinning at him. He smiled and shook his head, running a hand over the top of his head and sighing.
"We cant do this, in the car." He laughed.
"Why? You never done it in a car before?" She asked, sitting up, amused.
"Well, yeah but, it was, different." He shrugged.
"How?" She asked, smirking.
"I dunno, this is like, a public parking lot in the middle of Detriot. I done it but there was no people around..." He trailed off.
"I think its fun." She shrugged. "Knowing you could get caught, its such a turn on."
"But what if someone walks past?"
She laughed. "Then they will see us having sex in my car. C'mon."
"Aight fine." He shrugged. He was getting horny, and he didnt care where they did it, as long as they did it, and if she wanted to fuck him in her car, then he could deal with that. Maybe she was right, it could be kind of cool to know that at any second someone could catch them.
"Mmm." She giggled and leaned against him, catching her breath. "Wow."
"I love you." He said, out of no where.
"I love you too." She said, kissing him on the mouth.
"I know." He grinned at her. She smiled back.
"Think anyone saw us?" Lataya asked, taking a deep breath and looking him in the eye.
"Mmm I dont care, but I dont think so." He said, licking his lips as he looked down at her body.
"Well, then," She tilted his head up to look her in the eye by putting a finger under his chin. She kissed his lips softly and whispered, "Wanna do it again?"
He grinned and kissed her, and that was his answer. How could he refuse HER? This?! What they have, it was amazing, because it was love. They loved each other so much, and that was probably why their sex was as good as it was. He knew one thing, it was the best he ever had in his life, and he wouldnt want anyone else to share it with him, but her.
