Chapter 20
Pretty soon, the thought of not getting attached to Lataya, was forgotten. Marshall spent every waking moment possible with her. It was mostly because he wanted to be around her so much, but part of him still didnt trust her, and he wanted to keep an eye on her, and make sure that she didnt cheat on him.
He found it hard to trust her, because she had hurt him in the past, and because of Matt. She had cheated on Matt, so what if she did it to him? He didnt want to give her the oppurtunity, because he didnt know how she would react. He just kept close to her, watching what she did as if she was a child, babying her and taking care of her.
She hadnt minded, but sometimes it was annoying. They would go shopping and he would be running around behind her, nearly bumping into her because he was so close, and asking her if she wanted him to buy her anything. She said no, because she really didnt want his money, she had some of her own that she didnt mind spending. He was just a little bit to eager, but she found it cute most of the time.
Of course Kim was trying like hell to get Marshall to dump Lataya. Of course, Kim didnt want him back, but she just didnt want Lataya to have him either. Mostly because she knew how happy the two were when they were together, Hailie had made several comments about how daddy laughed alot when he was around Lataya. But also because, she didnt have a steady boyfriend, and why should Marshall have a steady girlfriend? It just wasnt fair.
Plus there was the fact that Kim hated Lataya. She argued with Marshall constantly about letting Hailie visit him, because she didnt want her near Lataya, but Marshall told Kim that since Hailie was his kid to, and he wanted her to be around Lataya, he didnt care. Kim was jealous of Lataya. Lataya and Marshall had love that was so pure and untouched, so passionate and raw, so beautiful, and Kim knew that it was really hard to find. She wanted love like that, but since she didnt have it, she didnt want Marshall to have it either. She was a very selfish person at times.
It had been nearly 2 months since Lataya and Marshall had got back together officially. Marshall had by now rented an apartment until he could get another house. It had been decided that Kim would take the house in the divorce. The divorce still wasnt final yet, but it was a definate thing. There wasnt a doubt in his mind about who he wanted to be with.
Since Matt had owned the house that Lataya lived with him in, she stayed at Marshalls. She had moved in, because her job didnt give her enough money to pay for her own apartment. She kept her job, insisting that she was independent and could pay the bills also, and was going to night school to be a Graphic Designer. Marshall had just finished a tour of europe, and he had only gotten back yesterday.
Lataya was at work, so Marshall was alone. But she should be coming home soon because they had to go to a party, it was Proofs birthday, October 2nd. Proof was having a huge party, that night, he loved parties, so any excuse to have one, he took.
Marshall glanced at his watch. It was almost 8 o clock. Lataya got out of work at 7:30. They should be leaving in about 20 minutes to get to Proofs a little early. He sighed and walked out of the bedroom, down the short hallway, past the bathroom, kitchen, laundry room and spare bedroom doors, and into the big livingroom.
He threw himself down on the couch and picked up the remote to the tv. He flipped through channels boredly, nothing was on. He continued flipping until he found a porn station on their sattelite, and he tilted his head to one side. Lataya hated watching these kind of movies, but he watched them when he was on tour and stuff.
He was watching it, so obsorbed in it that he didnt even hear Lataya walk in the back door. She walked through the tiny kitchen and looked over the counter that had a window overlooking into the livingroom. Marshall was laying on the couch, the back of the couch facing her. She had a clear view of the tv and she rolled her eyes.
"What are you watching this porn shit for?" She asked, raising an eyebrow. He turned his head to look at her and grinned.
"Its interesting." He said matter of factly.
"Theres not even a plot, its just people having sex." She sighed.
"There is so a plot." He argued.
"Really? So, whats the plot?"
"Um, well, that guy, just slept with that girls sister only like 10 minutes ago..."
"Nice. Thats not a plot, thats porn. You find it interesting to watch people having sex?" She asked, opening the fridge door and pulling out a bottle of water.
"Yeah." He shrugged.
"Ill never understand..." She said, unscrewing the cap and taking a sip from the bottle. She walked out of the kitchen and into the living room and leaned her elbows on the back of the couch, holding the water bottle in one hand, and using the other to make a grab for the remote.
"What are you doing?" He asked, holding the remote to his chest and turning away from her, keeping his eyes on the tv. "This is the best part!"
"Its all having sex, whats the difference between the parts?" She laughed.
"Theres a big difference! Now cmon, stop, go get ready for DeShauns party." He said, turning away from her again when she made one last grab for the remote.
"How come you dont come get ready?" She smirked.
"Because, Im already dressed." He said smugly.
"Really now?" She asked. He nodded and she tipped the water bottle a little bit, dropping a few drops of water onto his pant leg.
"Hey! That shits cold, and this is what Im wearing tonight, cut that shit out." He said, moving his leg before she could spill more. She leaned over and tipped it over further, grinning at him and he grabbed the bottle from her. "Go get dressed or this waters gonna be all over you." He threatened, grinning at her.
"You wouldnt do it." She said, shaking her head.
"Wanna bet?" He raised both eyebrows. She shook her head and he laughed. "Then go get dressed."
"No! Give me the water back!" She said through giggles. He shook his head and smirked.
"Am I really that stupid? You will pour it on me."
"Will not."
"Will too." He laughed, grabbing her arm when she tried to grab the water bottle. Her eyes widened as he squirted some of the water at her.
"STOP!" She laughed and tried to pull away from him, but he grabbed her other arm and pulled her over the back of the couch. She landed on her back, her head in his lap. He laughed and sprayed the water at her more. "Marshall! Ugh, You are gonna be sorry!" She said as he uncapped the bottle and poured it all over her face, neck and shirt. She gasped and sat up quickly, feeling the cold water on her.
Marshall laughed hysterically and threw the empty water bottle to the floor, and a water drenched Lataya turned around, glaring at him like she was going to kill him. "Hey baby, your a little damp." He said, through laughter.
"I should fucking kill you." She took a deep breath and wiped her hand across her face, smearing the water and then moving her hair back, out of her face. He laughed harder and cleared his throat, trying to calm down. She whined and pushed him, not very hard, "Marshall!"
"Im sorry. Im sorry. Cmon we gotta leave soon, go get dressed." He said, taking a deep breath and sighing.
"Okay." She said simply, getting up and walking out of the room. He raised both eyebrows. She seemed a little to calm for him. He was suspicious. After a few minutes, he got up off the couch to go see if she was ready to get going soon. He walked through the hallways and into the bedroom, looking around when he didnt see her. He walked back into the hallway and towards the bathroom, thinking she could be doing her make up in there or something.
"Laya?" He asked, looking into the open bathroom door. He gasped as she jumped out from behind the door with a bucket of water. She dumped it over his head as he stood, open mouthed, his clothes dripping wet, water drenching him. She giggled evilly and put the bucket down on the floor as he took a deep breath. "You know that was just wrong." He raised both eyebrows.
"But so fun to watch!" She laughed. He rolled his eyes and grinned. How could he get mad at her when he had just done the same thing to her minutes ago. She was all dressed and ready to go to the party, she looked great. Her hair was up on top of her head in a bun, some strands fell down, framing her heart shaped face. Her eyes sparkled, and she had just a little bit of glitter under each of her eyes. Her clothes looked great-and dry. She was wearing low cut black jeans, and a black spegghetti strap tank top.
"You look so great." He said, wiping his hand across his face again as the water kept dripping down in his eyes and everything. She smiled and blushed and he got an evil idea. Stepping close to her, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pressed himself up against her.
"SHIT! Marshall! Your cold and wet!" She squealed, trying to get away from him.
"You did this to me!" He laughed letting some of the water rub off on her. She laughed and tried to get away from him, finally he let her go and she jumped back, grabbing a towel and wiping off her outfit, that was now damp from the water on him.
"Look what you did!" She laughed and threw the towel at him. He caught it and laughed, drying himself off and walking out of the bathroom to the bedroom to change his clothes again.
A few minutes Later, Marshall walked into the livingroom, fully clothed and ready to go. Lataya had managed to dry herself off from what little water that she got on her, and she was checking the caller ID box on the wall. He grinned and walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and kissing her cheek. She smiled and finished deleting the last of the calls, and then turned around so that she was up against the wall and he was in front of her.
"Ready to go?" She asked.
"Mhmm." He hummed, taking her hand.
"Aight." She said, leading him over to the light switch in the livingroom, and then turning it off and they walked down the hallway towards the front door.
Marshall looked down at Latayas body as they danced to Ja Rules new single, "Livin it up". Marshall loved the way Lataya danced, right up against him, fast, but how she made everything seem to go so slow. He was always in a daze everytime that they danced.
The party around them was jumping, hundreds of people had showed up, and they had brang their friends. Celebrities were all over the place, from Missy Elliot, Royce da 5'9, Dre, Mya, Lil Kim, DMX, Xzibit and just about every other rapper DeShaun had befreinded. DeShauns livingroom was turned into a dance room, people were crowded into the large room, grinding together and drinking beer. The pool outside was crowded, people were sitting all over the stairs talking and drinking cristal wine, having fun. Most of D12 were dancing with random girls, Swift was out by the pool with his girlfriend, talking to DeShaun, and his girlfriend.
Marshall licked his lips and took a sip from his beer as Lataya danced in front of him. She looked damn good tonight, and he wasnt the onyl one that noticed. He had caught a few guys checking her out, and he wanted to beat the shit out of them, but he didnt. Why did he get jealous when other guys looked at her? Shouldnt it be that, the other guys were jealous of him? He could understand if she was checking other guys out and he got jealous, but she wasnt. He had nothing to be jealous over, and he knew it.
It was just that nagging feeling in the back of his mind that made him react the way he did. Maybe it was the fact that he didnt trust those other guys, and the fact that no matter how hard he tried to trust Lataya, he just couldnt. After what Kim had done to him, and then Lataya changing her mind about him, it made him more cautiuos, as he called it, and more paranoid, as DeShaun called it.
He just couldnt help it. He knew that he had nothing to worry about and that Lataya wouldnt cheat on him, it was just, he couldnt help it. So many women had screwed him over in his life, his mother, his ex wife, even Lataya had her share of fucking him up, just about everyone that was important in his life had tried something at some point. It made it hard for him to trust Lataya, even though he knew he was just being stupid. Or was he? He always had these doubts.
The song ended and Lataya grinned at him. "Wanna dance again?" She asked as Craig David, 'Fill me In', the remix, blasted through the speakers. Marshall took a deep breath, and sighed. There was nothing he wanted more than to dance with her like they were dancing before, but....
"In a few minutes. Im absolutely exhausted. Lets go sit down." He said, taking her hand with his free hand and leading her out of the crowded room.
"Aw! I wanna dance!" She said, moving to the music as he led her out of the room. He laughed. "Cmon!" She laughed and started singing to him. "So dont you worry Ill be all over your body like chocolate on a turkish delight, baby!" She sang.
"Too much soda?" He asked, laughing.
"Caffiene!" She grinned. "Im hyper."
"I see that." He smirked and let go of her hair, moving his arm around her waist and pulling him closer to him as they walked through the crowded house.
"C'mon Marshall," She said, trying to pull him back into the livingroom where the music was really loud. "Dance with me!"
"Later." He replied.
"Fine." She sighed. "This is like my favorite song though!" She argued, trying to get him to dance with her.
"Later Laya." He said distractedly. His beer was running out, he needed another one, and then he wanted to sit down and talk to people for a few minutes. He wanted Lataya to stay with him, he didnt trust all the people at this party around her. She sighed and walked beside him to the large cooler on the kitchen counter, and he grabbed out a beer for him, and asked Lataya what she wanted to drink.
"Beer?" He asked, looking into the cooler.
"Um, no, one of those things I like." She shrugged.
"What are they called again?"
"Um, I dont know, those pink things...Um, SUBLIMES! Yes, I think thats it."
"Ok..." He moved some heinekens aside and grabbed a Sublime, handing it to her.
"Thanks." She said, uncapping the bottle with the bottle opener that was resting on the counter. She handed the bottle opener to Marshall and he set it back down where they got it from.
"Lets go out back by the pool." He said, looking out the glass patio doors that were half open. The big wooden deck outside that had stairs leading down the back of the house to the back yard, the short, freshly cut grass of the big lawn, and the wooden walk way that led out to the large chain link fence. Inside the fence was concrete ground, around a huge in ground pool, with lights all around the side of the pool so that even when it was dark out you could see. The lights looks so beautiful, they were dim, but not to dim, and when they shone in the night it created a glow that reflected off the water.
"Ah, I dont want to...Havent we had enough water for tonight?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"We are going to sit by the pool, not swim." He laughed.
"Mhmm, thats what you said the last time. You know, right before you PUSHED ME IN!" She said, one hand on her hip, the other holding the bottle of Sublime. Mashall grinned at her.
"Yeah? Well, I jumped in after you, so we were even." He smirked.
"Um, no, I believe that it was Kon Artis who pushed you in while you were laughing at me." She grinned.
"Yeah, well I aint gonna push you in. Dont worry about it." He shook his head and laughed. "Although now im extremely tempted..."
"Thats why Im not going near that pool. You can go. Ill go find someone to talk to." She said, grooving to the music that she could hear all the way from the living room. She had a huge crush on Craig David. Marshall didnt like him, he always got jealous when she heard Craig David on the radio or saw him on tv. But it was just a crush, and Lataya loved Marshall, and she hoped that he knew that, but sometimes she got the feeling that he didnt know, and she wanted him to.
"Aight. Ill come back in here in a few and dance with ya, if you want." He said, feeling kinda bad for leaving her up here. But he wanted to sit down and relax, and with so many people around, he wouldnt get to relax. Outside it was more calmer, open spaces, plus not many people were out there. Just a few people swimming and some sitting on the deck smoking.
"Definatly. Hurry up aight?" She said, pulling away from him, but catching his hand with hers.
"Yup. If you change your mind, come on out." Marshall said, starting to walk towards the back door, outstretching his arm until finally they let go of each others hand. Lataya nodded and walked away towards the other room, hoping to find someone to dance with, and Marshall went down the stairs of the porch.
Lataya looked around the crowded hallway, and saw Royce da 5'9 standing up against the wall alone, watching people dance, bobbing his head to the beat. Lataya grinned and walked over to him. She liked him alot, he was really cool. One of her favorites of all of Marshalls friends. He was so down to earth and kept it real with everyone, and he was cute, and he was so funny.
"Hey Royce." She grinned at him. He looked over at her, and grinned back.
"Hey Lataya. Wheres Marshall? I havent seen you guys here yet tonight." He said, looking around.
"Outside." She shrugged.
"Oh, everything ok with you guys?" He asked, raising both eyebrows.
"Yeah, why wouldnt it be?" She asked, shaking her head.
"Just the way that boy usually sticks to your side like motherfucking glue ...Im surprised he isnt around." He laughed.
"I know!" She laughed. "Oh well, I dont mind, because its him. But I swear, if any other guy did that..." She shook her head.
"Haha yeah!" He laughed.
"Hey do you like this song?" Lataya asked as the Afro Man song, 'Because I got high' came on over the loud speakers.
Royce laughed. "Who doesnt?" He asked. She laughed and they listened to the song, laughing at the crazy lyrics and the funny noises that Afro Man made in the back ground. When the song came to an end, it switched the 'Fiesta' By R Kelly and Jay Z. Royce nodded and looked over at Lataya. "You like this song?"
"Yeah, its alright. But they overplay it on the radio I think. Im gonna get sick of it soon." She joked.
"Yeah, tell me about it. You wanna dance?" He asked. She shrugged and nodded. Marshall wouldnt mind if she danced with Royce, after all it was just Royce, and it was just dancing. They walked away from the wall a little, and started dancing. The beat was awesome to dance to, and Royce was a good dancer.
"Hey your pretty good." She laughed as he wrapped his arms around her waist, and she put her arms around his neck.
"So are you." He replied as they moved with the music.
She grinned at him and they continued dancing.
Marshall was outside for a few minutes, and he started getting a little bit bored. Well, maybe not bored, but he wanted to go dance with Lataya some more. He felt bad for leaving her up there alone. DeShaun was too busy making out with Cherise, his on and off girlfriend, to talk to him, and Swift was not in a very talkative mood. He was pissed off and had an attitude, and wasnt really talking to Marshall except for some smart ass comment to try and piss him off.
Marshall sighed and stood up, DeShaun barely looked up from where he was doing what looked like, eating Cherises face. "Im going inside." Marshall stated. DeShaun didnt look up, Cherise opened one eye, glanced at him and closed her eye again.
"They dont care about you going inside. All they can think about now is how to suck each others fucking lungs out through their mouths." Swift cleared his throat and took another drink from his beer.
"Its what it looks like, aint it?" Marshall grinned and Swift nodded. Marshall shook his head and turned around, walking inside the house, passing the people on their way outside, or across the lawn to the patio chairs set on the grass about 20 feet away from him. It was nearly 12, Marshall was gonna stay for another few hours, but he was getting tired. Lataya was hyper, she would probably crash soon anyways, and she would want to leave.
He walked up the steps behind people, and when he finally got into the house, he went straight for the livingroom. That was most likely where Lataya was going to be hanging around. He could hear the music really loud, it was Ludacris, 'Whats your fantasy'. This song was kind of old, but people liked dancing to it at parties still.
He casually walked into the livingroom, looking around for Lataya, and finally saw her. She was dancing with some guy, he had his back to Marshall. All Marshall saw was some guy with a dark blue bandana, a navy blue tee shirt to match, and baggy jeans that hung low around the guys hips, showing some of his boxers. Lataya was close to him, to close for Marshalls liking.
He got jealous immediatly. How could she be grinding with that guy? He started getting nervous and paranoid. What if she was cheating on him?
But she wasnt, right? Because, she wouldnt do that. And plus, this was only one time, and it was just dancing.
Dancing really close, grinding actually. They were so close they could be having sex out there if it wasnt for clothes!
But Lataya wouldnt cheat on him, he argued with himself. But he walked forward into the crowd anyways and stood right behind the guy she was dancing with. After a second, Lataya looked up and saw Marshall and looked shocked, but pleased. She stopped dancing immediatly, and so did the guy she was with.
"Whats goin on?" Marshall yelled over the loud music as the chorus came on.
"Oh hey Em, whats up?" Royce turned around, away from Lataya, and Marshalls eyes widened.
"Hey man." Marshall said shortly. "Lataya? Are you tired? I wanna get going soon."
"Um, Im not tired, but Im getting kinda bored with the whole party thing, so whenever you wanna leave is fine with me." She shrugged.
"Didnt look like you was bored." Marshall said coldly. Lataya frowned, and tilted her head to one side, wondering why he had said that. Maybe because she was dancing with...
"Royce and me was just dancing Marshall." She assured him. "Dont worry about it, and dont talk to me like that. I havent done anything wrong."
"Yeah right." Marshall smirked. "I wanna get going now." Royce cleared his throat nervously, and stood by as Lataya shrugged. Royce could tell that Marshall was probably mad at him. After all, he couldnt blame him. He wouldnt like it if Marshall started grinding with his girl either.
"Aight. Bye Royce. Ill talk to you later I guess." Lataya said, grinning at Royce and then walking over to Marshall, who put his arm around her shoulders protectively, and glared at Royce.
"Bye Lataya. See ya Em." Royce nodded.
"Take it light." Marshall said. They walked out of the room and down the hall towards the front door. DeShaun probably wouldnt care if they left early, and he wouldnt really say goodbye, so Marshall just found one of DeShauns security gaurds walking around, and told him to tell DeShaun that he said goodbye.
"Take it light?" Lataya asked when they got out of the house. She had never heard someone say that to someone else as a good bye before, and it sounded a bit strange.
"Yeah, like take it easy, but take it light. I dont know, I heard someone say that one time." He shrugged.
"Oh, alright. I never heard someone say that before." She laughed.
"Yeah, well." He shrugged again and they walked down the street a way to get to the car. Since the street was packed with cars, the curbs were lined, on both sides of the street, people were parking where ever they could, and as close as they could get to the house. They walked for a few minutes, down the street, and finally reached the car.
