Chapter 19
"Would you calm down?" Marshall laughed as he turned the doorknob to go into the studio. Lataya was about ready to hyperventalate, clutching his arm tightly. "Its only Dre!" He said, pushing the door open, revealing a long corridor with many doors.
"Oh my god." Lataya squealed. "You dont understand! Hes like, Dr Dre! Hes, oh my god!" She could barely even talk.
"Ow! Let go of my arm like that!" Marshall said, feeling her nails break his skin. "Lataya that HURTS!" He said, trying to pull his arm away from her.
"Sorry." She said, letting go of him. He sighed and closed the door behing them, shaking his head.
"Come on." He led her down the hall to the 3rd door on the right, and opened that door to another hallway, shorter than the last one with another staircase leading down at the end. She followed him down the stairs, and at the bottom there was a vending machine with candy and chips, and another with soda next to it. 2 doors were on either side of them, one on the left and one on the right.
She took a dep breath, excitement coursing through her body. Marshall raised an eyebrow. She was acting like the groupies that he met everyday. But she wasnt a groupie, she was Lataya. This was getting weird.
"You ok?" He asked, his hand on the door to the left, getting ready to push it open. She nodded vigourously. "Are you going to scream? Please dont..."
"I wont scream, I wont scream." She said quietly.
"Aight." Marshall blinked and pushed the door open. Lataya stared into the huge room. Big glass walls cut half of the room off, and a huge mixing board with millions of tiny buttons set in front of it.There were about 4 chairs in front of the mixing board, and a couch behind that. Plaques were all over the walls, showing off Dres many amazing accomplishments.
At the mixing board, was Dre, Kon ARtis, and another guy that Lataya didnt know, but his name was Kevin. DeShaun and Swift were in the glass recording booth, headphones on and a mic in front of each of them. Bizzarre was sitting on the couch with Dres secretary, Jennifer, and one of the mixers, Rob. Kuniva was standing next to the door way, and he looked over at Marshall as the door opened.
"Hey guys." Marshall said, holding the door open for Lataya. She walked in and looked around nervously.
"Hey Em." Kuniva said, giving Marshall a pound. He looked at Lataya, whos face was bright red from being nervous and shy, and laughed. "Hey girl. Either you had a bit to much crack, or you really shy."
She blushed even more, and Marshall rolled his eyes. "Shes never met Dre." He explained. Dre turned around and Lataya thought she was gonna die.
"So?" Kuniva said. Dre was walking towards them.
"So, man you should have seen her the whole way here," He laughed and started jumping around, slapping Kunivas shoulder, doing an imitation of Lataya. " 'Im gonna meet Dre! Hes so hot! Oh my God Marshall! Dr Dre! Ahh!' " Lataya finally elbowed him and he stopped.
"Marshall, your embarrassing the poor girl." Dre said, reaching out a hand to Lataya. She was staring at him, opened mouthed, but she reached out and shook his hand. "Hey." Dre said.
"Hi." Lataya said, eyes wide. She felt faint, she was shaking Dr Dres hand. She had been a fan of his since he was first starting out.
"Hey Dre." Marshall said, breaking through Latayas thoughts.
"Em." Dre let go of Latayas hand and glared at Marshall. "Your late."
"I told Brian to tell you, I had shit to take care of. Its ok though. Im here now." He sighed. "Whats up for today?"
"You have to redo the hook for what we worked on yesterday. Swift and Proof are in the booth now, going over their parts. Then we are mixing it together." Dre said.
"Aight, dont shit yourself. We'll get it done." He said, shrugging.
"Yeah." Dre shook his head. "So whos your friend?" He looked back at Lataya and grinned, and she thought she would pass out right then and there.
"Dre, this is Lataya Woodson. Lataya, you know who Dre is." MArshall introduced them.
"Nice to meet you Lataya." Dre smiled.
"Nice to meet you too." She replied, eyes wide. A second later, Kon Artis called for Dre, and Dre turned around to see what he wanted, and Lataya sighed.
"And here," Marshall led Lataya towards the couch. "This is Jennifer and Rob, they get paid for sitting on their ass and doing nothing." He joked. "You know Bizzarre already."
Lataya said hello to them, and the rest of the guys that she already knew, and was introduced to Kevin.
The whole day, Marshall didnt say much to DeShaun, he avoided him best he could. DeShaun wanted to talk to Marshall, straighten everything out, but everytime he came close, Marshall found someone else to talk to, or was to busy to listen.
Marshall was still very hurt about the whole Lataya sleeping with DeShaun thing, but he tried not to let it get in his mind. He put it in the back of his head and avoided DeShaun. He still talked to Lataya, thought he distanced himself from her, afraid of getting more hurt then before.
Normally he would want to be with Lataya whenever he got a chance, talking to her constantly, always glancing in her direction, sitting as cloes to her as possible. But now he didnt. He spaced himself away from her, scared of getting close to her again. She hadnt really seemed to notice, she was having fun talking with everyone and she even started to act calmer around Dre.
That night when everyone left the studio and went back to the hotel, DeShaun tried another time to talk to Marshall. He was in the lobby, talking to a fan. Lataya was going up the stairs with one of the security gaurds and Kuniva, and everyone else had gone upstairs or off to do their own thing.
When the fan left, DeShaun quickly tapped Marshalls shoulder. He turned around, grinning and shis face fell when he saw DeShaun.
"I know your pissed at me, but we cant just ignore each other forever." DeShaun said quickly, hoping Marshall would talk to him.
"Why not?" Marshall sighed and turned around.
"Because Im fucking sorry." Deshaun said, following closely behind Marshall.
"Ill bet." Marshall smirked.
"I am! Look, we didnt know what we were doing." He said, shaking his head.
"You didnt?" Marshall turned around and DeShaun shook his head. "Well, how should I explain this to you. You were having sex with my girl. There, now you know."
"Ok first of all she wasnt even your girl at the time." DeShaun said, raising his voice slightly. "She wasnt anyones girl, she was fair game."
"Oh PLEASE!" Marshall yelled. "C'mon, you know that she is always gona be my girl!"
"What the fuck?" Deshaun rolled his eyes. "You werent together at the time, I know that we shouldnt have done it anyways but Im SORRY!"
"We should have been together."
"But you WERENT!" DeShaun argued. "Plus I was drunk, fuck, you of all people know how I am when Im drunk! I dont think!"
"Thats no excuse."
"I know, but Im saying that if we were in our right, sober minds, we shouldnt have done that. She was my BEST FRIEND, she was like my sister. I never thought of her like that really. I never thought me and her would be doing that. Ever!"
"Look, it doesnt matter. Its over and its done, and I dont care anymore." Marshall shook his head, not wanting to argue anymore. He was to tired.
"You sure?" DeShaun asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah." Marshall lied. It did bother him and he really did care. It totally changed everything, and he didnt know how long it would take for things to go back to normal. It hurt him alot, more than he woudl admit to anyone, even himself. He couldnt even look at DeShaun without getting bad visuals of him and Lataya, and it hurt him even more each time.
"Aight, your positive?" DeShaun asked as they started up the stairs.
"Im fucking sure aight?" Marshall snapped. DeShaun nodded. "Sorry. Look, just, next time, keep your dick in your pants or jack off or something. Just stay away from Laya."
"Deal." DeShaun laughed. "So whats up with you and her?"
"I dont know anymore. I guess we are just gonna see how it goes." Marshall shrugged and stopped in front of the hotel room door. DeShaun nodded and waved at him.
"I see ya tommorow Em."
"See ya." Marshall replied. He walked into the room and closed the door behind him.
He looked around the empty room, and heard the shower running from the bathroom. Lataya was probably in there. He sighed and kicked off his shoes, then pulled the sihrt over his head and dropped it to the floor. He laid down on the bed, staring at the stucco bumps on the ceiling.
He felt really depressed tonight, and he didnt know why. He just got what he wanted, right? He was going out with Lataya, like he wanted. Normally he would be happy, he wouldnt be lying here feeling sorry for himself for no reason. Althugh he still felt a little betrayed. Even if him and LAtaya werent together, how could DeShaun fuck her, knowing how Marshall felt about her. He was the only person who knew what was going on between Marshall and Lataya, Marshall told him everything.
He was still hutring about that, this wasnt an easy thing to deal with at all. He was jerked out of his thoughts by the bathroom door opening and Lataya walked out in shorts and a baggy tee shirt, a towel wrapped around her head.
He watched her for a second. She was so beautiful. She had long slender cream color legs, they looked so smooth. The shorts that hugged her hips, she was thin but she had big hips. He liked big hips. The long tee shirt that was about 2 sizes to ibg for her. She was so hot, filled out in all the right places.
"Dont look at me like that!" She said defensively.
"Like what?" He smirked.
"That!" She laughed. He continued staring at her, and she laughed. "Marshall!"
"What? Im not doing anything." He said innocently.
"Sure!" She laughed, taking the towel out of her hair and shaking her head. Her brown hair fell down around her shoulders, and she smoothed her hair back with one hand, picking up a hair brush from her suitcase.
"What?" He asked. "I always look at you like this!"
"Well stop." She giggled.
"Why?"
"Because its freaking me out!" He laughed.
"Yeah, sure." She said down on the side of the bed, next to him, and began brushing out her hair, using the towel to dry it first. He watched her, occassionally getting splashed by a drop of water from her hair. He didnt mind though.
"So did you have fun today?" He asked.
"Yeah!" She nodded. "It was awesome, thank you so much for bringing me! It was like a dream meeting Dr Dre!"
"Yeah, I thought you would like it." He grinned and watched her finish brushing her hair out.
"Thanks Marshall." She smiled at him. He smiled back, forgetting all the things that went wrong in his life at that momment. Her smile was so beautiful, and to him at that moment, only her smile mattered.
She was so glad to be back with Marshall again. She didnt know what she had been thinking, leaving him for Matt? She was just lucky that Marshall had taken her back, and she knew how lucky she was. Every girl in america would love to be her, this was Marshall Mathers.
But unlike every girl in America, Lataya loved him for what he was. He was sweet, caring, funny, smart, cute, talented, he was just the most amazing human being there ever was, and he was hers. She loved him and he loved her. And while that thought scared her a little, it made her heart swell with joy and love.
When she was done with her hair, she put everything back and picked up Marshalls shirt from the floor, putting it on top of one of his suitcases in the corner. He watched her tidy up the room a little bit and then she sat down on the bed next to him, and looked over at him.
"Tired baby?" She asked. He shrugged.
"Not really. Just feeling sorta down, I guess."
"Aww, whats the matter?" She asked, moving closer to him.
"Nothing, I just feel sorta depressed, dont worry about it." He sighed.
"Want me to make it better?" She asked, kissing his neck. He shuddered and tried his best to resist her. If he fucked her, he would be more emotionally attached to her then he already was.
"No, not tonight." He said, laying down and pulling the covers over himself. She sighed and laid down also, looking at him the whole time.
"You wanna talk?" She asked.
"No. Im tired." He said, closing his eyes and shutting the light off.
"But you just said-"
"Yeah well I changed my mind." He said coldly, turning onto his side so that he didnt have to look at her. He would love nothing more but to roll over and fool around with her, but how could he, knowing that the last person she had done that with was his best friend? He didnt even want to talk to her about it, he just wanted to be left alone for now.
He sighed and closed his eyes, listening to her breathing beside him in bed. He tried desperatly to fall asleep, but he couldnt. He was upset, thats why. After about 10 long minutes he cleared his throat, letting her know that he was awake and knew that she was awake, and waited for her to say something. She didnt, so he turned around onto his back, fidgeting, trying to get comfortable. After making alot of noise and movement, ruffling the blankets and kicking around, she finally exhaled loudly.
"What Marshall!?" She asked, knowing he was trying to get her to talk to him.
"Oh, I didnt know you were awake." He lied, clearing his throat again.
"Bull shit. And even if I wasnt awake, I would wake up from all that kicking your doing. Whats the matter with you tonight? You been acting funny all day..."
"Nothings the matter. Im fine." He lied.
"Liar." She said shortly, coughing.
"Im not lying."
"Yeah you are, I can tell." She smirked.
"Fine, but I dont wanna talk about it." He lied again. He did want to talk about it, but he didnt want her to know that he did.
"If you didnt want to talk about it, you wouldnt have admitting to lying about being fine." Lataya argued.
"Aight." He sighed. "So what?"
"Aight, so now you tell me whats wrong, we talk, and Ill see what I can do to fix it."
"Ok, um..." He tried to think of how to say it. Finally he just sucked it up and said, "Why did you have to sleep with DeShaun?"
"What?" She was totally caught off gaurd.
"Why?" He asked, looking over at her through the dark. Their eyes were adjusting to the darkness, so they saw everything with a blue type glow.
"I, dont know." She cleared her throat. "We were drunk Marshall, I swear, if I wasnt drunk as fuck, it wouldnt have happened. I dont think of D like that, hes like, family to me. I mean, I dont know." He was silent, listening to her talk. "Is that whats bothering you?"
"Kinda." He replied.
"Come on, itll never happen again, TRUST ME. Its not that hes not good- its just that, hes D and I-"
"No details, please. Spare me." He said cringing.
"Sorry. Look, I know that, it hurt you, and that your still really, sensitive on that subject. But, whats there to say about this whole thing? Im sorry, I regret it, it meant nothing to me, and I love you. Thats all I can really say..." She sighed.
"I know. I jus, I dont know." He rested his head on her shoulder, and she wrapped her arms around him. "I wish you didnt fuck him." He said after a minute.
"Me too." She said, hugging him tightly. "Me too. I never meant to hurt you though. Im really sorry for it."
"Its ok." He shook his head. "Dont worry about it, I can take it."
"Do you feel a little bit better now?" She asked hopefully.
Even though he didnt feel better at all, he lied, to make her feel better, "Yeah, I do. Lets go to sleep aight?"
"Okay." She smiled a little, feeling better that he said he felt better. She felt bad still though, she didnt want to hurt him anymore. At that moment she decided that she would never hurt him again. She was changing everything, she would never leave him, unless he wanted her to.
His head was still on her shoulder, and she sighed, kissing the top of his head softly, feeling his smooth blonde hair against her lips. She leaned her cheek against his head, and closed her eyes, waiting for sleep to find her.
He grinned when she kissed the top of his head, and snuggled closer to her. She was warm, and even though it was summer time, in California, he felt cold laying alone on the other side of the bed. He moved his hand over hers as it rested on his stomach, and intertwined their fingers together, sighing happily and closing his eyes.
